Vegas is just the better squad smh

Initial Creation Date: Feb. 22, 2021
Published: Feb. 22, 2021

Description
The Avalanche just lost, Vegas showed why they are a true cup contender. Fleury is absolutely unreal I don’t even understand how. But well woop de do the Avalanche will hopefully make the playoffs and get some revenge on Vegas.

Also very unimpressed with Byram, hoping EJ can come back soon.

(Don’t take the trades seriously btw I just want MAF and Tuch played very well)

it took being sent to Vegas for MAF to realize he can't mail it in.
Some of his playoff performances as a penguins were down right awful.

It was a great 4 game series. Fluery just plays well with a chip on his shoulder.

In my opinion, the best thing to happen to him was the trade/signing of Lehner.

He needed that edge again.

The season series is 2-2. I dunno what you expect. It's the top 2 teams in the west, if they don't split, is the loser really a good team in the first place? This is exactly what was supposed to happen.

True, that is one way to look at it. Tbh it puts a chip on both goalies shoulders. Vegas wants them to compete and I think they are getting exactly what they wanted. (Minus Lehners absence)

Well here we are again, me overreacted again lol.

The one time we will know which team is better is in the playoffs but I think right now Vegas is better because of the playoff experience the grit, the size, and the defense and goaltending. Especially goaltending.
All qualities of a Stanley cup caliber team...

Relax man. Avs were the better team in the first 3 games. Tonight they were sloppy and Vegas capitalised on mistakes. They have bigger concerns than the Avs do, namely their lack of finish and the lack of a 1C. Vegas got the bounces today and Avs had more chances despite playing badly. Not worried about this game at all.

P.S. Tuch is great. He'd be the perfect LW for this team to add right now with that combination of size and speed.

Dude come on. MAF had everything go right, Byram is 19 and if you haven’t been impressed I don’t know what would impress the kid is going to be a monster, and in a 7 game series I’ll take the Avs their center defense and dynamic defense all day and for the next 5 years over Vegas.

Idk that Tuch is great he’s big guy that can skate and beside shooting astronomically higher than his career avg has caught some fortunate breaks. I will say that him and Marshessault are the poster boys for why Seattle won’t be able to replicate what VGK did in the expansion draft.

Vegas' core is also getting up their in age. Tuch, Glass, and Stephenson are their only 3 forwards of note under age 28. Theodore is their only high end Dman under age 31.

Contrast that with Avs who when Toews was out played a top 4 consisting of guys aged 22, 22, 21, and 19, and have all their top forwards in prime age... Pretty different futures ahead of these teams.

This Avs team could really do with a big body who can skate like Tuch. Would help us out a lot against some of the bigger teams.

You're right about Marchessault and Tuch, and Seattle. Teams will likely have learned their lesson about not getting fancy with trades, so Seattle will probably have to take a long-game. That said, they'll have the advantage of joining in a flat cap league where they'll be able to leverage capspace to great effect.

Everybody could use a guy like Tuch, I like him but let’s reign in some of the platitudes for a 1 time 20 goal scorer.

You hit the nail on the head w/Seattle cap space is their WMD but they are going to be saddled with some expensive bad players the 1st few years. I keep thinking what’s the enticement the Avs have to give up to get them to take Compher.

This is why I tried telling everyone that Tuch wasn’t going to get moved all offseason. He’s the only forward under 26 that has shown any ability to score on the team.

Whitecloud is coming on so strong though. I’m so impressed with the kid.

Tuch will score 20+ again this year. Last year he just couldn’t catch a break with injuries and the first year he was a rookie that bounced all around between lines.

Tuch finally played with his size and speed last night like I’ve never seen before. Maybe playing with Stone bumped up his confidence. If he plays like that nightly he’s a force. The problem is it seems like he’s never built on it. Let’s see going forward now

Tuch has talent it’s why he was a 1st rd pick to begin with, but yeah the guy that super impressed me was Whitecloud he just made so many good solid plays in the series. Carrier on the other hand has played to far over the line of aggressive imo, the Landeskog hit in Tahoe was straight dirty and dangerous. Regardless I think it is becoming obvious that VGK and COL, sorry STL, are the not only the 2 best teams in the west but 2 of the best 4 or 5 teams in the league.

St Louis have lost 6 of their last 9 games, and only won once in regulation in that span. Considering that their opponents have been Arizona x 6, San Jose x2, and LAK x1, that's gotta be concerning for Blues fans. They look closer to No.4 in the division than the top 2.

Yeah I’m over Carrier. He can’t finish. Rather see Kolesar and Reaves centered by Nosek.

They seem like pretty evenly matched teams at this point but if you look at the underlying stats, the Avs are the better team overall. They can't expect Fluery to play that way all the time but the Avs can't allow plays like that to happen. Aside from that 2nd goal, which was an unfortunate bounce (although it was created by a good chance), they just had some lapses that lead to good chances. It's still early in the season, there is a lot of hockey to play and these teams play four more. I fully expect to see these teams in the divisional final.

Yes, but the excuse of “it being early in the season” it’s nearing its end of its use, imo. We are 15 games through a 56 game season so yes it’s still kind of early but now is really when we see what teams are really going to look like.

You would think Vegas would be feeling a strong sense of urgency to win right now considering how old they are overall. Once players hit 32-33, the decline in athletic performance can hit fast and hard. It may be "now (within the next 2-3 years) or never" for them."

You aren't making the point you think you are when the two teams just split their 4 game series; your opinion seems based entirely off what happened last night. Go look at the stats and discern for me which team was "better" because 2-2 tells me they're pretty evenly matched but the stats tell me the Avs are the overall better team. Could someone like Fleury steal a game or even a series for them? Sure but Gru was pretty good in the series, too, and both teams had their lapses and good moments as well. It would be mostly a toss-up in a seven-game series between these two teams but I'd give the overall edge to the Avs.
