Fixing the Sharks for 2022-23

Created by: MJC13
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 23, 2021
Published: Feb. 23, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is assuming after getting a top 10 pick this year, the Sharks opt for a full rebuild, which involves trading Hertl, Kane, and tanking for the top pick in 2022. Labanc/Meier could be moved as well, but I wanted to keep some good players, as part of this rebuild was to see how quickly this team could become somewhat competitive again, especially with adding Shane Wright. The Forsberg move is unlikely as well, but it goes back to the idea of building a competitve team.

Had to pick between buying out Jones and Vlasic, but I believe buying out Jones would be easier in the short term. Sending Burns to Seattle would probably cost us a lot, so I wanted to see if I could keep him, while not having his cap hit be too much of a burden. The hope is he's still a solid enough player at 36 years old.

By that point the wild won’t need the center depth.

More silly extension talk, just to make a trade. Teams aren't giving up much for the violate Kane, unless similar iffy money goes back to Sharks

I’d definitely trade Meier over Kane at this point.

As sad as it is, why would Vlasic allow them to waive him (NMC). I would prolly play someone over Ozzy and not let him play fourth line to start, give him another year to develop. It doesn't help to give promising guys like 7-9 minutes a night, check Gregor and Leonard for reference.

This doesn't make sense for the Wild. We're going to keep Boldy and our 1st and continue building around our youth, instead of trading them for 30 year olds on the decline.
