So the Ducks essentially end up paying Compher what Henrique was making dont see the point in that from their perspective, either they trade him to cut the cap or buy him out

Adding a guy that couldnt cut it in the NHL and a 4th doesnt make up for it

Ducks end up paying a worse player Henriques salary for nothing, they do not win this trade

I agree with the Ducks getting the worst of it. Should probably add something going their way.

I know it's not a perfect trade as it stands, but it makes some sense at least.

The max I see the Ducks retaining is 1M tbh, with the right return maybe 1.5M, anymore and they might as well buy him out

I’m not sure about that. Kaut and a 1st seems generous for Geno at this point, but it’s doubtful he gets moved.

no lol. Thats straight up horrendous. A late first in a bad draft and a future middle 6 winger for a franchise centre? Gosh what am I even looking at right now

*was* a franchise center. He has lost steps (plural) and while it’s not as though he can’t make a comeback, age is a real thing that needs to be at the top of the discussion. All that said, I don’t think the Pens move on from him.

he is a franchise centre. Even if he was an elite centre, this is still not close

Are you saying he’s the face of the franchise and isn’t who he used to and that gives him more value? He’s not playing like an elite center this year. Top 6, yes. But he’s on the decline.

I honestly think you both have valid arguments. The other thing I'll note is that he has full trade protection and won't be going anywhere unless he wants to. If the Pens don't think they have a shot at the Cup in the next two years (currently it looks doubtful, but who knows), then they may be forced to make a tough decision. In any case, they won't get what Malkin is worth in return due to the NMC. That's my opinion anyway.

You nailed my thinking precisely, even if I wasn’t able to get it across. I don’t see Malkin going anywhere but that’s because he’s not gonna get the return that justifies moving him even if it’s the best thing for the Pens. I think this offer is fair and I really liked the thought process.

He was a franchise center
not so much anymore
He has been bad this year

If doughty had 2 years left on his deal, would you trade a 1st, a good prospect, and a serviceable player for him? Bc that's what we're looking at.

Doughty has been bad for the past 4 years
Malkin has been fine ever since this year.
If Doughty played like a top 10 d man last year, yes

The coach and the whole front office will be off the team before Malkin is ever traded.
