Bear has WAY more value than that, he was arguably Edmonton's best defensemen last year.

Yeah no, with Larsson and Barrie as pending UFA's (it would be a bad idea to resign both for cap reasons imo), Bear is quite important along with Bouch as the long-term future in the RHS in Edmonton. The team has played well even without him, but he has only ever added stability to the lineup and I don't expect that to stop any time soon.

The Oilers trade a good young RD for nothing that they need??? Why would they go for that?

Why would edmonton trade a right shot for a left shot that doesn't make sense. There will be no such trades until summer if there are. Edmonton needs to make the decision if they are keeping Bear or Barrie they both play the same role. If they can't sign Barrie bear is their guy. if they sign Barrie bear is traded.

"WAY more value"? I just see Bear as a RH Kulak so I guess I must be missing something. Or maybe I just think more highly of Kulak than others.

This is a very good reply thanks for the explanation. I didn't take into consideration the fact that Larsson and Barrie are UFA's and will cost more than Bear. I just assumed Bear was the odd man out on the based on the depth chart this season, an oversight on my part.
