Well SJ does have a history of managing to keep players from leaving, usually its by giving them stupid contracts. *cough* Jones, Vlasic, Burns, Karlsson, Couture, Kane *cough*

Jones, Karlsson, and Vlasic are not in the same breath as Couture, Kane, and Burns. 3 of those guys are playing up to their contract while 3 of them are not even playing to the caliber to deserve an NHL contract.

I would make this deal, but for that buyout Vlasic contract next season, although I would certainly like to see Skinner play with another coach first, but the Pegulas are so in love with Krueger that he probably won't go anywhere.

Burns AAV has been a steal, just the 8 year length.
Couture length was immediately suspect, shouldn't have been more than 5 years.
Kane was a bad signing, no matter how he has played, 7mil was way to much, 7 years way to long.

Jones was actually one of the few deals that kind of made sense, he had been very consistent, maybe the aav was <1mil to much but it was acceptable.
Vlasic, like Jones, was given an extension a year ahead of time, meaning it would be 9 years until his contract expired. Worth mentioning he was the best Defensive Defenceman for years up until after he was signed.
Karlsson, impulsive trade, impulsive signing, consequences...

Oh and I forgot this already horrible Labanc deal...

Skinner deal thru 26-27, 9AAV, 7.5M signing bonus in 2022-2023, and is due $52M + the remainder of the 2.5M actual salary from this year.

Vlasic deal thru 25-26, 7AAV, 6.75M signing bonus left in 3 of the years, and is only due a total of $27M + the remainder of his 2.25M actual salary from this season.

If both players were bought out this offseason, the picture is even worst for the skinner contract...go check it out for yourself on the calculator section.

Skinner is due almost twice as much real cash...

Skinner's 5 year's younger and the difference in cap is just 2 mil right? And the deal is for the same length? LOL is this a question...

Forgot that this is CapFriendly where anyone signed for more than $2 million a year for more than 2 years is a bad deal and all of our best players are all horrible deals. Not sure what you expect the going rate for a currently PPG Center that is as good a playoff player as there is, but Couture's deal is hardly an issue. Contrary to popular belief, you have to pay to have good players. We have some bad contracts, but the Kane, Couture, Burns, and even Labanc deals are not part of them. Those guys plus Ferraro have been far and away the best players on the roster and have been playing objectively good hockey even factoring in their deals.

Yeah I mean I guess that would matter to some teams. As a Ranger fan, we tend to think less about that...

Even a ‘rich team’ like the Rangers (which I’m not sure why you even brought them up) should be concerned with $52M +

That's not really appropriate phrasing since we're talking about the net difference in salary over a 5 year period.

The right question to ask is "Would you pay an extra 3.55 mil annually to exchange the 5th worst defenseman in the entire league for a middle 6 F that is 5 years younger and vastly underutilized"

Apologies for my inappropriate phrasing, guess the way I explained the money was wrong.

Regardless of what you believe, the most likely outcome is this trade never happens and both players are bought out.
