I don't think Steen's money helps anything since he's on LTIR all season. But if the Blues are looking good at the deadline, I would hope that they look into adding Hall. Gonna need as much firepower as possible if they want to beat VGK or COL to get out of the West.

They'd probably offer something like the usual deadline winger rental cost: roster player + prospect + pick. Maybe the Blues offer something like Sanford + Alexandrov + 2021 1st + conditional pick based on playoff results and the Sabres retain to make the cap fit (not much real money at the TDL).

I cannot disagree more. Not only will we not have the cap space for this, but we're not in the position to mortgage chunks of our future for 20 games of a guy who doesn't bother with defense. The only thing we need to beat Vegas and Colorado is half our team back in skates. And if we're not healthy, we're not winning the Cup anyway.

That's a fair opinion. But IMO if they're just gonna pick guys like Jake Neighbours with their 1st rd pick, might as well take the gamble on the rental. Faulk, Krug, Schenn, ROR, Perron, etc, these guys aren't getting any younger - if they have the opportunity to add a guy like Hall (who can reach a very high level of play) I would hope they at least consider it. FWIW I don't consider Sanford a part of the future, and Alexandrov - I like him - still has a long way to go before he is helping this team. Are you anti-rental or anti-Hall, because the other name I'd really like to see on the Blues is Palmieri.

I would take Palmieri's big toe before I flushed two first round picks (no, I wasn't including Sanford in my remark about futures) and cap space on Hall. He hasn't reached a "high level of play" or helped any team win in a very long time now. That said, we don;t need to take any gambles to contend for the Cup. We just need to be whole or reasonably close to it.

For sure, the team is a long way from healthy; gonna be watching a whole different team if they can get everyone back. Way fewer holes than the patch-job we're tossing out there rn.

Steal isn’t even at .5 PPG right now and is a UFA. The Hawks add 3 mil to their cap. Maybe Staal is worth that to a contender, but he’s certainly not worth that to the Hawks. Chicago is rebuilding, even if they make the playoffs, they’d be better off letting their young players play. Staal just blocks the younger guys. And Chicago making the playoffs is a pretty big assumption to make. They’re riding some pretty hot goaltending at the moment and are missing several key players already. It’s going to be close.

It’s just a shortsighted move for the Hawks. It doesn’t do anything for them.
