Trades
1.
TBL
  1. Drouin, Jonathan
Additional Details:
This trade never happened
2.
NJD
  1. Weber, Shea
Additional Details:
This trade didn’t happen. Yes, Montreal absolutely won this trade, but there was a trade opportunity back in 2016 involving Subban that was way greater than anything that could happen now
3.
MTL
  1. Draisaitl, Leon
  2. Nurse, Darnell
Additional Details:
2016 1st round pick (EDM)
This pick was 4th overall
EDM
  1. Subban, P.K.
Additional Details:
This trade was reportedly going to happen at the 2016 NHL draft. However, there were many reasons it didn’t.
1) The trade wasn’t truly finalized. Apparently, Marc Bergevin wanted another asset for the former top-tier NHL defenseman. With hindsight, I would’ve just took the pick or just took Draisaitl and ran. However, nobody knew Draisaitl’s upside back then, as his value back then was probably similar to that of a Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Reading the post from Elliot Friedman from way back, I saw the package asked back then was Draisaitl, the 4th pick, one of Nurse/Klefbom, and another asset. However, for the sake of the trade above, I say that Bergevin buckles under the pressure of taking the deal and takes it without another asset (which is still an unreal steal)

2) The BIGGEST reason this trade didn’t go through was who Montreal would’ve picked with that 4th pick. And, no, it wasn’t going to be Jesse Puljujärvi. If Dubois fell to #4, the trade was likely happening. So, since this is a hypothetical post, let’s just say that Dubois was not the pick from Columbus at 3, and they took Puljujärvi.
4.
WPG
With the forth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the Montreal Canadiens are pleased to select, from the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, Pierre-Luc Dubois
    5.
    VAN
    1. Kotkaniemi, Jesperi
    Additional Details:
With their need for a center filled in 2016, they don’t take KK in 2018. So, where would they have drafted? I say they would’ve took a defenseman. Now, other than Dobson or Boqvist, there were no insane right-handed D-men. So, I say that at #3, Montreal instead takes Quinn Hughes. Now, this causes a log-jam at left defense, and there is a major hole on our right side. But don’t worry, Bergevin would fix that quickly
    6.
    MTL
    1. Suzuki, Ryan
    Additional Details:
When I place Suzuki in there, I mean that Carolina would’ve also send pick 28 in the draft. Montreal would’ve went with Suzuki to re-unite the brothers
    Fox, Adam
    CAR
    1. Fairbrother, Gianni [Reserve List]
    2. Sergachev, Mikhail
    Additional Details:
Let’s flash back to the 2019 off-season. The Hurricanes still have Adam Fox they need to move, where they also have yet to sign Jake Gardiner or trade for Brady Skjei. So, they take Sergachev, in exchange for Fox, who is guaranteed to sign as part of the trade, and other assets

Montreal also sends the 77th overall pick in this trade. This pick was used to take Gianni Fairbrother. That’s why I included him in the trade, though idk who Carolina would’ve took

    8.
    MTL
      Never signed
      9.
      MTL
Never signed to that deal, as with past cap payrolls, he still wouldn’t have been able to be retained. Maybe was traded for a pick, but either way, wouldn’t have been a Canadien had all these hypotheticals happened
        10.
        11.
        CAR
We signed him, or some sort of depth defender like him

I also read that Chiarelli ultimately decided against that trade because he wanted to keep draisaitl
