yes, two 61 point seasons on your ELC does get you near 7 million 2 years ago before the cap went flat due to a global pandemic. It's almost like there are a dozen comparable that you are just ignoring because you wanna get some leafs fans mad and purposefully are ignoring his best season in a shortened season

Leafs fans are bipolar when it comes to Nylander. One day he's worth Ekblad+, the next day he's worth a 7th

Nylander gets too much hate on this platform. MTL would have killed (one season ago) to have a RW like him!

By contrast to other hardworking player he might look bad, but he has a ton of talent. I

no, there are just people who like Nylander and dont want to move him for an over payment, and then there are like 4 posters who hate him and would move him for nothing because they saw a 3 second clip of him not back checking once

I mean in fairness he was on pace for 70 pts and like 35 goals last year.

Well, some of the trade values for Nylander out-strip the salary...so maybe he is a bargin

Pace means absolutely nothing.

Its fun for fans to think about it like that, but in reality it's a useless way to evaluate a player.

Yes because he definitely would have gotten less than 3 point in the last 14 games of the season

This is why no one pays you to scout.

It's relevant when the topic of conversation is specifically his point production. It's extremely disingenuous in my opinion to disregard he fact that he was just two points off his best full season total, with 9 more goals in 13 fewer games. That season was a substantial step up from from either of his 61 point seasons, and ignoring the circumstances around that season is being deliberately unfair in your assessment.

Forget point pace, if he had put up 31 goals and 59 points in 82 games it would have still been his best season by far because goals just matter more than points do.

There are plenty of valid criticisms of William Nylander, but I don't think the argument that he didn't produce up to his contract last year holds any water at all. I'd even go so far as to argue last year he exceeded the value of his contract, when it comes to offensive production. Definitely hasn't been good enough this year though.

Pace means everything when everyone only plays ~70 games.

Ok, Doughty is on pace for 53 points in 56 games.

No, I am talking about last season. He was on pace for 70 points. Considering the rest of the season never happened, it means everything.

The point is, although Nylander is overrated by some, it's unfair to say Nylander's only a 61 point player when he was clearly going to get well over that last season (not to mention he's gotten 61 points twice).

I never said he's a "61 point player" I said his career high is 61 points.

I love how you ignored my Doughty comment. It's good to know he's on pace for that many points, he's probably going to win the Norris because he's on pace for 53 points.

Kopitar will be a hart nominee because he's on pace for 59 points(which of course he'll put up 59 points because he's on pace for 59 points)

Oh sorry, I was going to respond to the Doughty comment. Somehow I forgot.
It's great Doughty's on pace for 53 points. Will he keep it up? Maybe. If he does great for him. Same with Kopitar.
Pace means a lot. It's by far the best indicator of how a player is doing in this season. So far all 3 of these guys are doing very well.

Doughty isn't getting 53 points lol nobody is a bigger fan of him than me and I know he ain't getting that. Kopitar is maybe because he's always been close to a point per game player.

I don't believe in pace. There's so many examples of hot starts then players slow down or a guy has x amount of points in x amount of games then doesn't score for 2-4 games. There's so many things that happen. It doesn't make sense to evaluate players like that. Its fun for the fans, but it's not smart to pay a player assuming that he will get x amount of points because he was on pace for it. Silly

Ok but what does this have to do with Nylander being on pace for 70 points last season when... there was only 70 games or so in the end? I mean, you seriously don't think he would have gotten over 61 points had covid not happened?

I'm sure he would have gotten a few points, but assuming that he would have gotten at least 70 points 100% guaranteed because he was on pace for it is ridiculous.

The argument could go the other way: he could have gotten more. It's very fair to assume he would have gotten 70 points.

But it didn't happen. I guess we'll see what happens for Nylander this season.
