Description
The 2021 draft is shaping up to be a quite weak one. I think the Senators would be better suited to trade their first-round pick for an impactful forward. Monahan makes sense for a lot of reasons, let me know in the comments if you think the value is off.

You don't want to be trading a lotto pick for Monahan.

Yes, it's an overpay. That pick is probably a top5/lottery pick+Thomson. That's too much for a 2C. Also, move Brown if you're playing him on the 4th line.

Haha Ottawa is the one saying no. That’s a top 5 pick

Can't see Ottawa trading a top 4 pick and their first round pick from 2019 for a 60ish ponits/year center

Ottawa can't do this. Drafting Brandt Clarke in 2021 would lockdown a soon-to-be elite top 4 D for yeeeears to come.
I won't be shocked if Logan Brown get moved as part of a bigger deal.

Virtual lock to be what, top 8 at worst? Probably top 5, can't see the Sens climbing high enough to fall out of the top 10. Can't see Ottawa moving it, especially for Monahan who while very talented, is not a true 1C and isn't really an "impact player". I don't see that as a good use of a top pick for Ottawa.

I agree they won't move it, and that calling Monahan "not a true 1C" is decently accurate. However Calgary got slaughtered without him the last 2 games, he comes back from injury and gets 2 points. Flames may have outshot Edmonton by 20 shots in that 7-1 loss but they lacked quality shots, throwing it in the the goalie's chest doesn't work well. Monahan is definitely an impact player, he's got one of the best finishes in the entire league.

In a weak draft where most of the top players are left handed defenceman, which is not a position we need as much.
