Evander Kane can get you something decent in return. Something like a B level prospect and a 3rd.

Don't understand either of these in the slightest.

Kane has either scored or been on pace for 30 goals over 82 games for 4 straight years. He is signed for 4 more years after this at a reasonable $7 million cap hit. That has legitimate value outside of just recouping money.

I also don't get giving up a prospect and 2 draft picks to get rid of our best D-Man to Seattle. If you are moving those pieces to rid yourself of Jones/Vlasic then sure I get it, but Burns is playing up to his contract and shows minimal (if any) signs of aging.

Kane is a polarizing player off ice and has a ntc, that is the reason for his moving.

Burns will age. He already plays horrific defensively, he's giving Ferraro great practice defending 2-on-1s, and occasionally make up for it offensively. He clears up 8 mil in cap as well. Would you rather have an NHL level goalie, and a Hertl extension, or Burns, who will only get worse and already allows so much offense for the other team?

I don't think the Devils take this deal. 7 million on a goal scorer when if they want one they get Holtz, Mercer, and have Clarke and Thompson who can rip the puck and not much else as prospects. They have little reason to trade for a goal scorer when they will be getting them on cheap ELCs soon and why would they take on 7mil for nothing when they will have to pay Hughes + more soon?

The main reason I think of trading Kane there is because they're likely losing Palmieri Gusev etc soon, but I see you're point. NJD and Habs are probably losing the most in FA

I get your point. But losing Palmieri and Gusev is actually a good thing for the Devils. It opens 2 roster spots for young players who should be getting NHL games.
