Restructure the Forwards

Created by: Dlowe5
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 24, 2021
Published: Feb. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rakell is a good target to bolster the top 6 which I believe will happen at the deadline this year. Forsberg is a stud and while not a massive upgrade over Nylander is a natural offensive player to add who brings a physical side to him as well liljgren needs a fresh start with a top 4 potential makes him a easy target along with Dermott to mold into a top 4 guy who needs a chance to do that and won’t be able to here. Bennett is a solid guy more unlikely but a second round pick the flames would listen. Probably would
need to add more then Engvall and petan however. Kerfoot is obviously Seattle’s pick may have to give up a future pick for them to pick him instead of Holl. Re signed Andersen and Hyman as they’re big key parts to the team. Re signed Boyd as he’s a valuable piece to the fourth line right now and simmonds as his veteran presence is needed with Spezza and Thornton likely retiring. That gives the door open for Robertson and Anderson on good cheap deals to mold and be protected on the fourth line. Sandin also finally gets his chance. Guys on the taxi squad are there because there is one in this. If not most of those guys don’t get signed and the leafs pad guys in the minors to call up if there is injuries.

Ducks retaining 50% of Rakell is worth more than a late 1st.

Not sure I would do that Nashville trade considering Forsberg would be in the last year of his deal. The rakell trade is sneaky good, even without retention. It will be a late pick

You are over the cap with only 20 players

No thanks from Calgary, we don't want your 4th liners and a 2nd does nothing for us unless we decide to suddenly rebuild

That's a big overpay for one year of Forsberg. Dermot and Liljegren are expected to NHL starters and next season and to include Nylander. Absolutely nonsense to put Bennett to play 3C...Gee he can't play that position for the Flames, he can't play it for the Leafs. Leafs keep the Engvall and the pick.

just for this year and next, Nylander for Forsberg 1 for 1 is a lateral move; not sure why you're giving up more assets when Nylander is signed for longer plus is younger. Ik some fans are down on him, but their 2nd line is at a down point right now, they'll bounce back

That’s fair value. He’s a top 6 forward if they were to add something maybe a mid level prospect to add to the ducks rebuild.

Thanks I really like the rakell trade as well, thought of it after Boston got kase last year. I understand I’m over the cap but the free agents could each possibly get a little less to make it work. I agree with the Forsberg deal I Probaly wouldn’t do it for that personally but wanted to explore the possibility with Nashville open for business.

Bennett will be traded for a pick and depth guys whether it’s the leafs or another team due to his poor performance and the pandemic along with treliving and his history of making moves and will why the money freed up for spending.

Nashville is exploring trades why I explored this trade they will want more since they want to re-tool on the fly. If you read my description you’d see and understand they won’t have room for Them or Dermott would possibly be picked by Seattle at the expansion draft. Bennett can and will be a solid 3C for someone just needs a change of scenery on a strong team who has patience to properly develop him as a center.

Just exploring a Nylander trade and liljegren will be traded for a quality piece as there’s to much of a log jam.

I agree completely it’s just a chance to explore a possible trade. However to get Forsberg you’d have to give up that as Nashville would want a reason to do it.

Don't know. why you say Bennett can be a solid 3C...he's never proved it in his 5 years in the NHL. And certainly the Leafs who are in win mode, aren't going to develop him on the fly this season.

Nonsense that Liljegren needs a "fresh start". He's at the development stage, no different than most other player selected where he was in his draft year. The Leafs might need him this season, and with Lehtonen and Bogosian UFA next summer, and the possible loss of either Dermot or Holl to expansion, Liljegren certainly is needed by the Leafs

Bennett would literally need to work on his faceoffs and D position to play for the leafs. From his talent he’d be able to do it easy. Liljgren will be traded, Sandin is farther along in the developmental process players nowadays from where he was drafted should be in the nhl sheltered on the bottom pair. Yes the leafs stacked up, however they won’t be playing him with Sandin on the bottom pair next year, which is where Sandin will play. When they drafted him it was who I wanted, I still want him to be apart of the future just logically speaking can’t see it.

3rd and 4th liners for most teams aren’t taxi squad players just because they are with leafs. However yes it would take more then that Probaly but that pick would be enough imo where Bennett is at In his career.

Petan has been on the taxi sqaud most of the season so far. I believe Engvall got injured but he is a mediocre 4th liner. You may value Bennett as a 2nd but a late 2nd doesn't do anything for Calgary

Petan has yes but on most teams is a 4th liner (ones that value skill) and Engvall is a guy you can move all around your bottom six. The late second does do something for Calgary and if you really must they could add a middle talent prospect.

Sorry, I can't see the logic that just because Sandin makes the Leafs full time next year, Liljegren is traded. Leafs might lose 3 of top 7 by this summer so replacements are needed. Teams need eight NHL competent Dmen to make it through an NHL season. There is lots of playing time for both Liljegren and Sandin. Really this "bottom pair" scenario is pure nonsense. Dermot who in the past two seasons played "bottom pair" behind LHD Reilly and Muzzin played 17 minutes a game. Gee, when playing 17 minutes a game, you can't call those sheltered minutes.

I agree about the 8 D hence why they’ll sign guys to league minimums near the end of there career for depth. And 17 minutes is sheltered when playing against 3-4 liners the whole time with no pp time and little to no pk.
