CJ has got to go

Created by: Bmersereau73
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 24, 2021
Published: Feb. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Claude Julien is a good coach but his time is running out for this team, they have never been a playoff team under a full season with him (they were already in 1st place when he joined 60% through the 16-17 season), and in 19-20 they wouldn't have been a playoff team if not for covid, he simply can't get results out of this team anymore, and they look disinterested in playing for him. Claude seems like a great person and good coach but this can't continue, the constant losing to teams at the bottom of the league, the poor special teams units (that's on Muller too). Something has to give, the floor is falling out from underneath Montreal and Marc Bergevin has to make a change behind the bench, before it becomes another infamous 8 game long losing streak.
I think that Dominique Ducharme would be an ideal choice to take over as head coach.

Edit: I called it.

I still think they should’ve traded Petry, Danault, Gallagher, Tatar and did a rebuild. Could’ve picked up a bunch of 1st round picks, got one of Owen Power, Luke Hughes or Simon Edvinsson and then next year got one of Wright, Savoie, Lambert. They need elite players on the team.

I would think that Bergevin would be on the hot seat more than CJ, no? He's been there I believe 8 years now with no real results to show for it.

I don't think trading Gallagher or Petry would have been the right move as they probably wouldn't have got fair value back in a trade compared to what those players mean to the team, Suzuki / Caufield have the potential to be elite players, but I see what you are saying, but due to the Price and Weber contracts Montreal is in a position where they have to try and contend, and I think they have the pieces to do so, this team isn't as bad as they're playing, they've got a good and deep roster, but can't seem to get up for games, that's on coaching IMO.

Coach normally goes before the GM, Bergevin did a really good job in the offseason, the on ice product is under preforming, that's on the coaching staff.

I do agree CJ hasn’t exactly gotten results and you can’t say MB hasn’t given him the players he’s needs to be a contender

Exactly, on paper this Montreal team should be a lock for a playoff spot in the Canadian Division, they've got scoring depth all the way down to the 3rd line, a good defensive core that should be able to both defend well and put up good offense, and what should be one of the best goaltending tandems in the NHL, but yet they can't really score, they're struggling defensively, and Allen has been the only consistently good goaltender for Montreal.

Burrows as the assistant coach will threaten to bite players fingers if they lose to Ottawa again.

Well you’re a prophet, you even guessed the replacing coach right ( though on interim )

I think Ducharme will have the interim tag removed at the end of the year and be named permanent head coach, I have a lot of faith in the guy, good for young player development as well.

He was really good for Canada at the WJC a couple years ago, I think this is an excellent move, promoting from within won't shake the guys too much since they already know and like Ducharme, but it will still probably give them the kick they need.

I will trade you a Ralph Krueger and 2021 second round draft pick for Claude Jullian.
You have no idea what a bad NHL coach is.
Every one on the team does poorly playing for him.
Skinner, Okposo, Eichel and Hall have three 5 on 5 goals for the entire season.
ONLY Ottawa and Detroit have fewer points than the Sabres while your Canadians are in fourth spot.
Imagine adding Hall, Staal and Cozens to the line up and doing worse than last year.
The PK is still terrible.
People think it is the players while those who actually watch hockey know it is the system, i.e. coaching.
