Obviously it wouldn’t be enough for Marner today, but back in 2017, the Pens were coming off back to back cup with both Maatta & Cole playing top 4 minutes, plus only reaching their primes.

Marner was underwhelming in Toronto as Babcock disliked him & often put him on the fourth line.

Toronto could’ve had a defence of Maatta-Gardiner, Rielly-Cole & Given that they already had a number of elite forwards, I feel they could’ve made a trade like this.

Let's say the pens put together an offer of Rust, Jankowski and a first for Byram. Does Colorado accept? No. That's about what this offer is.

Nah man, not a single GM would've traded the 4th overall pick from two years ago for supplementary assets and a low first.

It's pretty much the same as COL trading Byram to Pens for Pettersson+Ceci+1st now.

Marner was a rookie at the time and Babcock was... well, Babcock. Even Lou Lamoriello wouldn't be this crazy.
