pretty sure mtl would want kerfoot at least. it is a divisional trade and against a rival. we aren;t jsut giving you a top 5 selke player from last year for pieces of trash

reason I did it is because if the Habs slip out of the playoffs by the deadline picks and prospects for a rental would end up being the trade. Leafs won't give up real roster players when looking to add to this team and if the Habs are out they might not want a roster player

but yes this doesn't work if MTL is in playoff contention

Even if they do suck after the coaching change and even if they decide to trade Danault, that poor offer won't be it.

doubt mtl slips out of the playoffs. they;ll eventually end up top 2. and id rather danault walk in FA than be traded to a rival.

Gee, a few years ago the Leafs traded a second rounder for upcoming UFA Plekanec. No team is going to give up nearly that much Denault especially this years version of Denault.

just not sure what they'll be able to get in a trade for a rental who has been playing poorly this season. that's why I said I think Habs fans will be disappointed with the return if he is dealt

nah Edmonton is gonna be #2. Maybe #3 for MTL but it'll be a grind to beat out WPG

Pageau went for a 1st and 2nd can’t see danault retained going for any less

i doubt it. if ducharme can right the ship, this team can jump to 2, maybe even 1, considering how many injuries the leafs get.

I agree its a hefty price but Habs fans would be mad at me for any less. Heck, they're mad at me over this return which, for UFA Danault on a down year, is as good as it would get for them

Pageau also had 24 goals and 40 points in 60 games when he was dealt, AND came with an extension. Danault has 0 goals and 8 points in 18 games. Different situation here

Habs over-achieved playing many games against VAN and OTT at the start and the second that fairytale ended Bergevin looked for the first guy he could blame. I would be very surprised to see them overtake EDM for #2, and it is crazy to think that they will make it up to #1

Even without the offensive output I think they’re comparable players and he is going to get a comparable extension because of it, and pageau didn’t come with the extension but they probably did have a hand shake deal in place

also keep in mind quarantining issues will bring the price of rentals down this year. He doesn't have to quarantine for TOR but any US team looking for him as a rental would be turned off by the fact that you're only getting him for a fraction of the games. And I think this year's performance / production has a huge impact on his value

Gee, all fans are made at the Leafs if they don't overpay for any players in trades. Why the Leafs would want no goals Denault or 1 goal Hall, or three goals Bennett I can fathom.

That is true if traded on the TDL he only plays 14 regular season games, honestly I wouldn’t have a problem paying Hollander and a 1st for him retained, I do see your point though if the offers aren’t there why over pay

they lost one game where they had injuries to both goalies, 3 guys that were playing in the top 6 prior to getting hurt, and their best defensive defenseman hurt. I'm not overly concerned. Habs have dropped 5 of their last 6

There is a BIG difference getting an extension from a player whose team is out of playoffs....think Stone or Pageau. I sure want to be in the room when the Habs or any team in playoff contention say to a player, " We want your sorry ass outta here, so hurry up and sign an extension for (this $$$ and term) so we can trade to Team X. But if you don't sign the extension you're welcome to keep on playing for our team as we make a playoff run."

to me, this is the issue for MTL

1. If you're trading him, its a last second decision towards the deadline as you try to make your way back into the playoffs (assuming this plummet continues)
2. At that point, he'd have to quarantine for any US team and would play ~10 games for that team, so they won't give you the return you want
3. Of the Canadian teams, realistically only TOR and EDM (MAYBE Calgary but I doubt with the way they're playing that they'd sell the farm for a rental) would need him.
4. Danault has sucked this year

So his value is not gonna be nearly what they might have got for him last year, which seems to be how everybody is valuing him

Has he put up good defensive numbers still or no? I haven’t paid into the advanced stats yet
