5 trades

Team: 2020-21 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 24, 2021
Published: Feb. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The aim with these trades is as follows:

1. Add a 3C (Backlund)
2. Add a cheap backup/3G (Miller)
3. Add depth at F and D (Nieto, Montour)
4. Add more scoring to the bottom 6 (Jarnkrok)

P.S. Forgot to add comments on the SJ and NSH trades below so I'll say it here:

- SJ trade: Compher is underperforming relative to his ability this season, and needs a change. San Jose lack RHS forwards, so Compher would probably be a decent fit. Avs know Nieto well and he'd be a nice cheap depth add.

- NSH trade: Nashville are sellers and looking to rebuild/retool. Jost is an excellent PKer and also young enough to fit their rebuild. Avs get a versatile bottom 6 forward on a cheap caphit to help add some more scoring.
Trades
1.
COL
  1. Nieto, Matt
  2. 2021 5th round pick (SJS)
2.
COL
  1. Järnkrok, Calle ($1,000,000 retained)
3.
COL
  1. Backlund, Mikael ($1,350,000 retained)
CGY
  1. Timmins, Conor
  2. 2021 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Or Kaut instead of Timmins if Flames prefer that.
4.
COL
  1. Montour, Brandon ($1,925,000 retained)
BUF
  1. Beaucage, Alex [Reserve List]
  2. 2021 5th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Or another prospect. Beaucage has the highest goals-per-game ratio in the QMJHL with 14 goals in 16 games so far. It was 14 in 14 before being traded to a new team recently. His skating is a bit poor but his shot is elite.
5.
ANA
Future considerations / depth prospect of Anaheim's choosing. This is mostly about giving Miller a chance to win a cup.

You can have Compher in the trade if you'd like.

Alternatively I suppose you could have Bowers instead of Timmins/Kaut, though he's our only bottom 6 C prospect so that's not ideal.

Actually no. We need to let Gawdin/Frose/Pelletier have a chance

Byron Froese in 29 and had plenty of chances before.

Value's decent in all trades here, but I can't see CGY or NSH retaining long-term.

You might be right, but if Calgary don't retain then Avs can't really afford it. Would rather add another asset than drop the retention.

Nashville, it's just 1 year, maybe Avs include a pick but I don't see that being a problem for them.

    Thanks for your feedback!
