Buffalo Blockbuster

Created by: NickC1988
Team: 2021-22 Vegas Golden Knights
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 24, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vegas gets: The first franchise center they've ever had and another legitimate top 6 forward. Both entering their prime. Not much else needed to explain here.

Buffalo gets: A true start to their rebuild. Glass and Tuch both need a change in scenery. Tuch is a top 6 forward all day, and is just now starting to get that ice time (I don't think it'll last. I don't like Deboer as a coach). I think he's being severely mismanaged in Vegas. Glass is a bit younger than Tuch, certainly not as proven, but has loads raw talent to hone in on. If Buffalo can give him one position to consistently play (C or W), he will grow. Smith and Fleury are more than just throw ins. Both have 1 year left on their contract for Buffalo to sell away at the deadline for picks. I value Smith at a late 1st and Fleury at two 2nds as long as both are 50% retained.

Could Buffalo get higher 1st rounders from other teams? Perhaps, but I don't think Buffalo can get the additional value that Vegas is giving them here. What is LA going to do with Eichel when their defense is weak? The Rangers have Zibanejad and Igor needing extensions in 2022.

Buff might not get a better offer than that.

Sabres easily decline. Why do we need this? Why do we trade Olofsson with Eichel?

That’s my thinking. Rangers aren’t gonna be able to top that offer and have enough cap space to sign all our young guys. Especially considering Shesty, Fox, Chytil, Miller, Lindgren and Kakko needing extensions (under the assumption Laf is who is traded for Eichel). Just about guarantees not signing Mika and then we’re still short a center. Plus with us being the 6th worse team in the league so far I’d rather keep that 1st and potentially draft Kent Johnson or Berniers in the draft this year. That’d prolly be what’s best for our franchise long term.

Why wouldn’t they? Tuch is super inconsistent. Fleury and Smith both don’t have a lot of term. Glass is a good start and two high 20 low 30 picks is not enough.

Thats probably good for eichel alone and maybe not even that. Glass has some potential the firsts are late fleury isn't super valuable Smith and Tuch don't move the needle enough to rid themselves of their best scorers. We'd need Karlsson included at the minimum. The first rounders won't matter because we can't draft worth a **** anyways.

Understand where ur coming from, but from a Vegas side that’s pretty prohibitive considering they wouldn’t have a great 2nd line center.

Yeah I get it for sure I'm just saying. If Vegas really wanted too they have the capital to get a solid two C and there's always FA because Eichel would have that offense rolling.

It's hard to be consistent on the 3rd line with Nick Roy and Keegan Kolesar. He's a power forward who needs playmakers, not grinders.

Thats gonna be the trick with trading with a good team. To state the obvious, all first round picks are not equal. If you wanted a good young player, a good prospect, and 2 firsts (with a cap dump to grease the skids), and a decent vet winger on a one year deal- it checks the boxes, but leaves something to be desired, and thats not including adding olofsson. Its pretty easy to look at this as tuch and glass plus 2 late firsts, which to me is too much quantity and not enough quality.

Do you understand that Olofsson is a pretty valuable asset? Vegas may offer a good deal, but without the addition of Smith and Olofsson.

Here's a fan of Vegas offer a couple of days ago:

Tuch
Glass
Morozov
McNabb
Reaves
2021 1st
2022 1st

for

Eichel

Utterly laughable
And we’d DEFINITELY get better offers for Eichel than this GARBAGE trade

And then that leaves Vegas with a huge hole on the left side of defense, and I don't think they would do it. It also puts them at the cap having to resign Martinez. Otherwise it's:

Theodore - Pietrangelo
Hague - Whitecloud
Holden - Coghlan

That's not going to cut it.

I don't care, we don't trade Olofsson, the guy plays great. Let them include any other salary, but a base Tuch + Glass + Morozov + 1st + 1st.

So if Olofsson is out of the above trade Buffalo takes it?

Well, it's close. Why not just make a deal like that, though?

Tuch
Glass
Fleury
Morozov
