This is pretty nasty assuming all these players take these discounts. Probably not, though.

I just can't see this team carrying that Neal hit for the next 4 years.
Got to think one way or another they send Neal to Seattle.

Eh to be fair he's kinda only a 1LD because of the Edmonton d core being mediocre but definitely quite a good young player... though so is Georgiev

Kassian regularly would be tough to unload but he has 3 pts in 13 gp and is nearing 30 seems no chance

1st player ever claimed by 2 expansions if so 👀

    However

Gosh they'd be misguided to do that

Possibly. But who else would Seattle take? Jones, who’s been a healthy scratch? Fourth liners like Archibald or Khaira? Or maybe a younger forward like Benson?

I'm not saying EDM doesn't send anything else, but I just don't see them carrying that cap hit for another 4 years if bought out. I don't know, EDM doesn't have a whole lot to work with as far as a sweetener but I have to think they move that cap hit. To be honest it's good for the whole league to do so. They can't have their biggest star at this point on a team buried with dead weight. For the sake of just marketing the product. He's got to go.

Edmonton would likely have to incentivize Seattle to take Neal with a high draft pick. I’d rather buy out Neal and eat the money (which represents just over 2% of the Oilers cap room) than compromise the future by trading away picks.

“A team buried with dead weight”. Ahh, the Oilers have scored the most goals in the entire league. And have the second most wins in the entire NHL right now. 2 forwards not named McDavid are in the top 20 in league scoring. 2 d-men are in the top five among rear guards. Some dead weight.

that really isn't the point. I never said the oilers weren't a good team or that McDavid or Drai couldn't carry the team.
That has nothing to do with the fact they got a lot of dead cap weight that could be used to make them a better team and Neal is part of that. I don't know why you would even take issue with that. It's clearly true.
Neal and Kassian together are almost 9 million in dead cap space. That hurts. You move out Neal you get almost 6 of that back. That's a real top 6 forward to play with Drai and McDavid allowing some depth below them.
You add that 9 million to the almost 4 million you are paying in buyout this year, and the almost 1 million you are retaining on Lucic and yeah, you are buried in dead cap weight. It's like 13-14 million.
So if you want to argue it at least try to be honest about the facts on it. Now some of that cap hit comes off, but not all of it. They are still carrying a lot of dead weight. They need to move as much of it off as possible. Give this team better odds of long playoffs which is frankly good for the game that their biggest names do well in the playoffs.

Hall for sure and likely Yams and maybe RNH by a bit so not too much all told my $ issue is more with Kassian but all told an interesting rather viable post

May just need to shift a few things ultimately

Better than Holland will do for sure

Blake Coleman is gonna ask for more, Taylor Hall is honestly having another rough season and if that keeps up we'll prob get him at a low term 6 mil. Nuge is gonna get at least 6.5. Other then that I like the signings!

Nuge wants Draisitl money, Coleman would want more to leave Tampa and I’d personally stay away from Hall that money can be used better elsewhere, resigning larsson and Barrie is interesting has there been a change of heart in the Edmonton fan base?
