Why would Vancouver do that deal? No thanks.

NJD needs, just for reference:

(1) A young, top-six, right-shot winger (especially if Palmieiri leaves via trade/UFA)
(2) A young defensive LHD ready for top-4 minutes in 2021-22 (Murray, Kulikov are UFAs)
(3) A 3rd pairing RHD who could slot up to 2nd pair in 2022-23 (once Subban leaves)
(4) Penalty killers
(5) A back-up goalie for future

Most of these they can find from within system.
Holtz/Mercer are (1). Bahl/Okhotyuk/Mukhamadullin are (2). Reilly Walsh is (3).

Pens of interest would probably be Pettersson or POJ

Would NJ do a Gusev Wood and Kulikov for Pettersson McCann? Picks to balance?

Maybe. What picks? NJD aren't eager to move Wood, and Gusev's trade value is big unknown right now...so maybe a conditional pick tied to which Gusev Pens would be getting.

What about replacing Bjorkqvist with D'Orio or maybe one of Clang or Blomqvist? I know that the Pens just drafted the latter 2 and it's hard to tell what their future is like, but any of these 3 could likely be a decent backup goalie. So...McCann is not the most reliable top 6 winger, but he's not the worst either, plus a back up goalie...kinda fits the needs of NJD, or not?

VAN decline, that trade does nothing for them. Also Big Mac brings a grit factor to VAN for cheap.
