Chucky Makes a Trade

Description
So we all know Philly's defence has been their biggest problem this season, and a lot of defencemen have already been mentioned on here (i.e. Ekholm, Schmidt, Manson, Hamilton, etc.). I wonder what each of you think of a deal like this? I just saw a post where SJ is looking to sell guys with long-term contracts to try and start the rebuild. Using that knowledge, this is what I came up with to put a spin on things.

In regards to Seattle, I haven't made a post in a while because obviously adding a defenceman prior to the offseason means we either lose the defenceman we add, or one of Provorov, Sanheim, or Myers. That said, let's assume Chuck goes the route of bribing Seattle to take a player that PHI would want them to take, and pay them off with pick(s). Just for this scenario, to assume we don't lose anyone in the top 4.
Trades
1.
PHI
  1. Burns, Brent ($1,500,000 retained)

  4. 2021 1st round pick (PHI)
  5. 2022 5th round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Is this realistic? Idk what SJ is looking for, and this contract isn't the best for an aging defenceman. Let me know.

I kinda like it.

Philly is missing Niskanen's vet presene (Braun just isn't it lol). Burns can still play 20 effective minutes a game, and with Philly's talent, I suspect Burns just might look like Burns again. I just see how it can stablize the back end.

The Sharks have to entertain it - just flat out it gets them out of the contract.

My exact thoughts. I love Braun though, but yes he isn't the go-to veteran presence that is still quick and logs large minutes. I'm just not sure if this proposal is legitimate, as I have no idea how the Sharks value Burns right now.

How do you resign anyone next off season?

Maybe Ghost is in the package??? $4.5 million for 3rd pairing minutes is pricey. Maybe a change of scenery he finds his game.

For starters, MacDonald and Schlemko come off the books for $2.5mil. The big one would be unloading a contract at the expansion draft, assuming Seattle does so. I can see the Flyers not protecting either Voracek or JvR to keep their young guys and clear cap a bit. If so, that's an additional 7-8.25mil that comes off as well, giving Chuck roughly $10mil to resign Hart (who isn't having a good year), Sanheim, Laughton, Patrick and Raffl.

Not saying it'll happen, but could happen if it all played out well.

I don't believe Burns and Alain Vigneault can coexist. Just my opinion.

Ghost for 20% retained Burns 1-on-1. SJ gets significantly younger, PHI gets a better D for now but also much, much more risky player in terms of age coming their way.

You think SJ takes that? Ghost has played well this year but just his name alone scares teams, so I feel like they wouldn't do it 1 for 1

Honestly if they can ship out Burns with gaining something that might be perceived as even slightly positive value, it might be considered a win. We can talk all day about how Burns is a physical anomaly and blah blah blah but the truth is that he's a 36 year old D with bad defensive record and 4 years left on his contract.

Those seldom end in a happy note.

Burns isn't great at the defensive side of the game.

If he's paired with Provorov I think he'd be okay. Trust me, as a diehard Flyers fan, there are PLENTY of guys who are brutal defensively, Burns would be the least worry out of them imo.

Sharks definitely accept. But Philly can keep Rubtsov and Sandstrom. We have like no space for extra contracts coming in.

Burns isn't as bad as some people make him out to be but he does have some major mental lapses defensively from time to time. I think the Flyers could utilize him pretty well though. Just need to pair him with someone who can cover for the occasional bad step up/over-aggressiveness.
