Desperately need Centers ASAP. Not just to be competitive, but to aid the development of their young wings.

They ought to move one of their young D-men to LAK for one of their young Centers.

Pretty sure they both expire in 2024, unless kravtsov burns year 1 after his season in russia ends

All of them are contending and a majority of their young guys aren't on ELC like the Rangers

They are not in terrible place, but not that comfortable either. Using Evolving Hockey as guide on contracts...

Buch: 6 years x $6m
Shesty: 3 years x $3m
Chytil: 3 years x $3m
Lindgren: 2 years x $2m
Gauthier, Howden Hajek near minimum

After Deangelo buyout, and bonus cushion, that leaves about $8 million in space with 4 roster spots to fill.

Two of those teams reside in states with serious tax advantages, allowing them to pay less than market value for their services. If they were in any other state, their current rosters would look extremely different.

The other one has depth issues and is constantly being ridiculed for being too top heavy. If you need proof of this, just head to the homepage and you'll find 10-15 trades involving one of Nylander or Marner for "cap reasons/add more depth".

the cap problem is not of concern to NYR when you realize that by the time the big time players need huge contract (outside of fox and possibly igor) trouba and kreider will be in the tail end of their contracts and will not have nmc. Assuming that kakko/chytil/lindgren are all going to take 2/3 year bridge deals which will likely happen since they haven't put up serious numbers yet

every time you reply you help bolster my point.
the rangers are not contending, they are at the end of a rebuild.
they are up against the cap this year because of deadcap and are still playing decent hockey.

how many teams could be in the Rangers current position with $15+ mil in dead cap?
you are talking about signing players 3/4 years from now...

Dunno - thats up to LAK and NYR fans.

Fox for Byfield?
Miller for Turcotte?
Lundkvist for Vilardi?
Schneider for JAD?
Jones for Madden?

I don't know matches best....but probably something that will upset both fanbases, but make both teams better.

my point being that every year, people come on this site and say some team is going to have issues with the cap and then eat crow when the season starts because teams "figure it out".
saying the Rangers are in a bad cap situation after this season makes zero sense - they really do not have a bad contract after this year. one could argue that Trouba will be a hard pill to swallow but I only think that is the case because of the RD depth the Rangers have...

Because I'm talking about the future. NY won't have enough cap space with all of their long contracts
