I can't see Winnipeg making a trade that makes a division rival stronger and themselves weaker.

I'm sorry but this is a GROSS overpayment, you take it, run and flip other assets for a Copp replacement such as Jarnkrok. You are out of your freaking mind if you reject this

The value is definitely more than what copp is worth but that doesn't mean that it fits with what the jets are trying to do, they need copp and it doesn't make sense to trade him just to get a pick that will be no higher than the 25th pick and a dman that will barely be an upgrade over what they already have.

Until you realize that copp is probably worth more to the Jets than a 1st (yes I know this sounds crazy, but it’s true). One of our only really good two way guys, that can score in the top 6, play PP and play PK. Dermott does nothing for Winnipeg, nothing. They have enough guys like him, this trade is copp for a 1st, which is likely a late 1st in a weaker draft. While yes it might value wise for the leafs be an overpayment. But to Winnipeg, I’m not even sure they’d make this trade. Yes they can go and try and find a replacement, but how does that replacement fit in the system? How does that replacement gel with other players, not like copp does I can assure you of that.

Yes I agree with you this is an overpayment value wise for the leafs, but to the Jets they likely say no.

If they wanted to improve the team and it meant they had to trade copp the jets would probably rather get less of a return for him from another team than trade him to the leafs making them better and flippinng the assets

Lol if you so love Copp then just keep him and don't pretend this is a trade WIN wouldn't make, which they definitely would

this is a late 1st and a dman who doesn’t really do anything for Winnipeg. How is it super unrealistic they say no to this? Even if you flip the late first you aren’t going to get an amazing piece that fits like copp. I understand what you’re saying that the value is slanted to the Jets, but you’re not understanding what we’re saying. Copp is worth more to the Jets than a late first and a dman who doesn’t move the needle.

Personally I think it wouldn't be smart to do the trade for reasons mentioned, it makes the leafs better but barely makes us better. But who knows, maybe the offer would be too lopsided for chevy to resist making, personally I wouldn't do it though smile

No, the value is good, it just doesn't help the Jets at all and helps the Leafs a ton. The Jets intend on making the playoffs and seeing how far they can go. As with 99% of actual trades made, value has far less to do with it than team needs and fit does. A late first doesn't help the Jets playoff push and "flipping" a player for something else isn't as easy as you think it is, when you consider how rarely it happens. It's just not something a team looking to make a playoff run does.

You know what, after watching him try to defend that third goal throw him in this trade and I would do it

Seriously though... if Jets win tonight I’ll enjoy reading all the MTL acgms crying about how their team threw the game away. I love watching leafs and Habs nation burn

It is an overpay but Copp is no ordinary 3rd liner. He can play anywhere in the lineup and put up points
