No point it waiting another decade with average team

Created by: Hale86
Team: 2021-22 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2021
Published: Feb. 25, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not any more competitive then the drivel on the ice now and pivoting to a future without the current disappointing core. Get rid of Backlund (mr every second game) and the dynamic duo who dissappears in big games (Mony & Gaudreau) and offer Bennett bigger chance then he has ever had. Time to reset identity...again. Adding Hall and some tough cap moves makes team similar compete but way better long term outlook.

Detroit, and Minnesota decline. And that would not be fair if lucic waives and we send him to Seattle

Minnesota was reportedly not interested in Monahan last summer. Can't imagine it changing after 7 months.

laugh laugh We're not trading our 24 year old Captain for a soon to be 32 year old Mikael Backlund try adding Calgary's 2021 1st round pick along with Noah Hanifin and we still decline.

laugh laugh This dude actually thinks that Gaudreau is worth Nolan Patrick+ Philly's 2021 1st round pick along with Philly's 2021 2nd round pick. And yet Dylan Larkin is only worth a soon to be 32 year old Mikael Backlund along with Calgary's 2021 2nd round pick. Obviously know's nothing of players values. Like i said add both Hanifin and Flames 2021 1st round pick and we still decline.

I hope the Larkin trade is a joke. If not please explain why Wings even make this trade.

The problem is that the Flames ownership is fine with mediocrity. All they ask is the team gets into the playoffs.

Detroit counters with gagner and a 2nd for Monahan. It's pretty fair right? What a joke that wings trade is. It might be the worst Dylan Larkin trade in the history of this site and man are there some bad ones. Disgusting

No from Minnesota. Guerin doesn't want Sean Monahan. You aren't getting Dumba much less thinking wild would add picks.

Anyway Dumba for Monahan is a no from Wilde's side

Yes, cause why would any team want to trade from their biggest strength to fill their biggest hole

Maybe because Monahan isn't as good as he's generally perceived.

Something tells me, as a Flames fan, that deep down, you probably know that to be true.

It’s not even that deep down, it’s on the surface. Monahan goes as Gaudreau goes a lot of the time. However, he is a good player and this works for Minnesota. They are trading from an excess to fill a position of dire need

Yeah, and we're telling you, Guerin wasn't interested. Pick your fight with him if it's an issue.

Article from Russo back in October:

Quote:
Now isn’t the most opportune time to trade Dumba. We’re in the middle of a pandemic, he’s coming off a down year. So, we’ll see. Vancouver never seemed really interested. I don’t get the sense the Wild have interest in Calgary’s Sean Monahan.

There was also a tweet back in the second half of last year where someone straight up asked him if Guerin was trying to get Monahan and he pretty much straight up said "no" with little to no elaboration. But I'm not going to go back and try to find everything Russo has replied to.

He also reported the same thing in a late September article.

Do some research instead of getting mad. It's a fact wild GM refused to trade Dumba for Sean Monahan this summer. No reason why/ for you to get offended, or mad.

Wild G didn't do Dumba straight up for Monahan. He sure as heck isn't adding on more. Anyway, this isn't realistic anyway

I’m not mad. Just think it is funny and quite stupid to decline from a MIN perspective

Well an NHL General Manager knows more than UPI. Frankly no offense, but your opinion doesn't matter to General Manager Bill Guerin.

You are acting like you know more than 20 year NHL Player , & General Manager in Bill Guerin. Sorry but you are wrong on this.

Ok, I know that he knows more about his team than I do. Not going to pretend to know more than the GM, but the math is simple and people do make mistakes. You have Calen Addison, Matt Dumba and Jared Spurgeon on the RHD, you have Joel Eriksson Ek, Victor Rask, Nick Bonino and Ryan Hartman down the middle.
Spurgeon is a 1, Dumba is a top 4 and Addison will be. Ek has a career high of 29 points, Rask had a 25 point pace last year, Bonino is a 40 point guy and Hartman has a career high of 31 points from 4 years ago

Dumba and Monahan both have almost the exact same contract just to make the fit even better. I don’t see the problem and find it hard to believe and almost idiotic that Guerin wouldn’t do it. I doubt that those claims are true by Russo. I just can’t wrap my head around any reason Minnesota wouldn’t do it. Only possible reasons I can muster are that he doesn’t trust Monahan away from Gaudreau or that he doesn’t like Monahans character
