Description

Don’t think the jets would want to part with 2 years worth of firsts, but theyd get 2 shots with that d core together since Ekholm and Manson have 2 years on contract.

I tried to follow the model of what Toronto gave up to acquire Muzzin (who had 2 years left) of 1st rounder + 2 solid prospects or pieces for both Ekholm and Manson.

Jets already are a fantastic team at Forward and in net, adding a couple pieces to their top 4 defense would make this a legitimate cup contender. I’d love to watch a Winnipeg-Toronto series with the jets icing this roster with a conference finals berth on the line. Would be tremendous hockey.

Jets retain their top two prospects still in Heinola and Perfetti while still making the team a legitimate contender.

Covid would make these deals harder to pull off with Manson and Ekholm both needing a 14 day quarantine to enter but this team looks amazing on paper with these moves.

Main issue is you now must expose at least one of those defensemen to Seattle.. not ideal.

Samberg is a much better prospect than grundstrom and Sean durzi. Equivalents on the jets for those guys are gustafsson and kovacevic or maybe gawanke/chisholm. Also perreault has been much better this year so I’m not sure he’s gonna have much if any negative value if we chose to trade him. Though I don’t think we should unless we have to, he’s been good.

As for manson, he’s not as good as muzzin period. At most I’m giving a couple of seconds for him, even then, I’m looking at a bunch of other guys ahead of him.

Probably a bit of an over pay for Manson you could probably get retention or drop one of the players and it would still go through

Definitely the year to go 06 oilers and there buying of pronger, which turned into short term but a trip to cup final. Being an all Canadian division, no truly ugly monster teams til the western final. So definitely time to swing at a two year window or as long as the Canadian division survives. Manson/ekholm might not be quite the swing I would be after but definitely a start. I’m no help with right answer unless Carolina/wash/pit/dal/nyi go into sell mode for some reason. Would be nice to find the right big large rhd not named bufuglien to take this team on a run.

As a jets fan Im hesitant to trade Samberg. This deal definitely makes the jets better right now and for next season, but trading Samberg could be a huge mistake. The kid is just getting started in his AHL career and is projected to be a decent NHLer. Ekholm is really good, but is it worth it for the jets for 1 season plus? That's without mentioning the 1st and 2nd rounder
