Love both those trades for Winnipeg. I personally think the NJ trade is very fair (correct me if I am wrong NJ fans) but I don't think MTL would swing a trade with WPG. Armia is a valuable piece for MTL's playoff push and I think it would cost more to acquire him but who knows!

someone like him would probably command a 1st + maybe 2 3rds but the devils have no reason to get rid of him so that value seems pretty spot on.
devils are in rebuild though, but closer to the end than to the start. they might ask for a young defenseman who is close to entering (1-2 years away)... would you as the jets be willing to give samberg + 3rd for severson?

Devils pass. Severson is our best defensemen this season and there is no need to trade him unless the Jets overpay, which I don't think they will.

Agreed on the value comments - no issues moving Severson for the value. However, the Devils have holes on wing in the top-6 and as @Devil1122 said, DS is our top defensemen. If he was moved, I'd be hoping for some sort of deal that included Ehlers (obviously add picks/prosps to balance).

Plus, Severson is on a very good contract. I would have liked a trade revolving around Laine/Severson before he was traded.

Severson stays. Smith stays.
All other d-man are movable. And cheaper.

Just wondering whether he would fit into the long term plans. I figure Smith would take over as the guy on the back end and with NJ still a few years away, they could use some assets to add to the pipeline.

Severson is still relatively young, 26, and is the Devils best RHD. Also, Severson and Smith have great chemistry. I don't see the Devils trading Severson for future assests

as much as i like severson, he'd likely be too old or past his prime by the time the contention window starts;
maybe acquiring a defensive prospect from the jets - dylan samberg, villie heinola come to mind in exchange for severson as that gets smith a partner for the 1st pairing and it gets the jets their d-man for right now.
