Webber to PHI

Created by: Hammerwise
Team: 2020-21 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 26, 2021
Published: Feb. 26, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just looking to see what it would look like if PHI moved on Webber.

Webber is still a quality dman and a top pairing guy. Hes struggling at the moment and at 34 yrs old with 6 yrs left at almost 8mil a year, hes a massive risk.
Ghost, a rushing dman, is now injury free and has played very well since return, especially defensively and out of position at RD.
An in-form Webber probably fetches more, but his age/mileage/contract length will never return equal value.

MTL probably takes that and runs.
5 more years of an almost 8 mil cap hit on a guy who's already 35... you are either desperate to take that on or crazy.

I want no part of a 35 year old dman making nearly $8 million for the next 6 years. We definitely need help on the right side but Weber is not the answer.

Weber likely only gets moved when his salary drops next year and he is valuable to a cheap owner who wants to hit the floor but not pay real money to players

thing about weber is that his salary is very very low, but his cap hit is high. so mtl can prob trade him when he has 2 years left on his deal to a team that needs to cover cap space.

With the retiring of Niskanen the RD could definitely use a boost.

That's too much for Philly to give up...its a bad contract. However, if Philly thinks they can win a cup and boost their right side...shave the picks off the deal and why not make it? Win a cup now, deal with the contract later. The ultimate prize is to win. Heck, if I were Marc Bergevin I'd even pay you to take Weber

Not to be that guy, but it's Weber, not Webber. Overall it's not a bad idea but not sure if Philly wants that contract.

They do, Provorov, Sanheim, Myers are a good 3 out of 4. Ghost has been solid. Gustaffson is what he is, another offensive dman, below average defensively, but will get 35+ pts in 15-19mins a night, Braun and Hagg are a solid defensive 6th-7th.

Out of those guys only Braun is a RD. Ghost has played well on RD. Gus can play RD or LD, but is poor. The team needs a more physical and defensive RD who can play 20+ mins a night. If the team were to upgrade it would be there.

I agree with that, but 4 yrs off is a long time to wait for that contract to not look so scary, Weber will also be 39 yrs old then, and the way hes playing at the moment? he wont be playing then.
