Yeah probably need both, or at least 1 of them with a boat load of other assets. This trade isn't close.

It's also a bad trade for Calgary. I doubt Detroit want to move a 2nd for Donskoi either considering that they're rebuilding.

Three first-class prospects plus two first-round draft picks plus an immediate quality replacement for Eichel (an element that almost all other offers I've seen lack) isn't close?

I'm pretty impressed with this offer. Guess I'm an outlier here.

(Considering the approval I feel for the Eichel trade, I'm surprised that the other two deals are so upside-down.)

If I were a GM and moving Eichel I would prefer moving him for a return involving more quality and less quantity, with at least one bluechip prospect (Newhook/Byram) and/or a higher 1st than late 1sts. Timmins, Kaut, and Bowers are really solid prospects but none of them are potential 1st line or 1st pairings calibre prospects, which is what Eichel would demand in return.

Agreed. Substitute Newhook for Bowers and I think this deal would be the right one for Buffalo.

Problem is everyone has a different definition of first class prospect. Seems like a ton of quantity vs quality imo.

But Buffalo is far from two high-quality prospects away from contending, even if for only a playoff slot. Say you put Newhook and Byram into the trade. To compensate, Colorado takes out Kadri, Kaut and Timmins (they're not going to trade away their last THREE first-round picks in addition to their next two.) So the trade is Newhook, Byram and two firsts for Eichel. Meanwhile, Buffalo's center corps is Cody Eakin, Dylan Cozens, Casey Mittelstadt, Alex Newhook, and Curtis Lazar, plus the chance that they decide to re-up UFA Eric Staal. I personally think that would be a sentence of two more years of mediocre results, until the centers mature.

I'd agree.

If the Buffalo trade went through you'd move Donskoi for whatever just to clear cap space. I'd scrap the CGY trade altogether but then I've made my opinions on Bennett clear in the past. That said I also think he's low on Landeskog's next deal. Makar I actually think about right, though most ppl say nearer 9-10, Saad might require a touch more but not much and Grubauer is gone? Work still to do to make all that add up properly.

It goes both ways in that if they ship Eichel out then they for sure go into a rebuild and having Dahlin, Cozens, Newhook, and Byram as center pieces gives them 2 quality centers and defensemen plus the picks. I don’t see Kaut or Timmins as core pieces and maybe Kadri needs to be included for cap issues so they take a first round of the deal that is later returned via TDL shipping him off. Having these young core guys even allows them to offset the high cost of guys like Okposo and Skinner.
