I’d like a small add to the Hertl deal but it’s fair obvi

Meier deal I don’t love but it’s not bad - I just rather a different set of prospect/ deal

But that Philly one ain’t happening York is gonna be real damn good - nothing we can do to acquire him unless you do: Meier for York and a first/ pick

really conflicted on the Philly idea, because I think there is a good chance a team will try and pickup Burns 50% retained at the deadline, and Philadelphia just seems like the obvious destination (where Burns will accept a trade to).

Looking around, York is ranked almost equally to Merkley in most publications, so I figured it was around good value, obviously not sure if PHI would be willing to depart from him, but SJ needs more LD prospects, and York is a perfect fit.

I’d love to see York over in teal but Burns’ age/ contract length negate a real chunk of value. If he is moved whether Seattle or wherever I think that trade is to unpredictable as not many teams will inquire on him and personally I don’t see an elite level prospect being moved is all. That’s just me but as I said I think it’s too unpredictable so I could be right or wrong.

I think Philly just has to many money worries of their own to take on burns. But hey if they did offer burns 50% for York I think I’d take them up on it haha.

Hertl only having 1 year left on his deal before UFA is tough to move Newhook for. You really are only getting him for the rest of his contract bc no way they can afford to keep him.
IMO newhook is only moved in a long term piece trade. Value is probably close but the logic behind the trade I just dont fully see it for the avs as Newhook is the only realistic long term 2C option Avs have once kadris contract is done. If you arent getting a replacement to fill hat void then its going to make a very big hole in the roster

Well it’s for this playoffs and next, and the team has many other prospects so I don’t see a hole created. I don’t see how it’s not fair because timmins + others aren’t worth it for the sharks. I think logic is there as Hertl comes at just above a 2m aav and and allows for plenty of cap flexibility for cup contender who’s adding a top 6 player; which is a very rare chance to get. Hertl also could extended but even then you’ve still got nearly 2 years to figure that out/ 1.5 y; if not win 1-2 cups while still being able to make other moves during since Hertl once again only costs 2m.

Hard pass on Hertl. He isn’t Newhook and a 1st better than Kadri, and given that Newhook will be on an elc to a team that needs difference makers on ELC’s because of contracts coming it doesn’t make sense. And for the crowd that says it a move to go for it now, the Avs are going for it for the next 5-10 years Hertl isn’t a guy that supplants anybody in the core so why make a move for him. Hard no imo.

COL really isn't going to be in that position to compete for very long. The cap is still a thing and Makar is probably getting 10M starting next year, Landeskog and Saad are UFAs, Graubauer is due for a BIG raise. Hertl can play any F position, and considering Colorado's biggest weakness is its wingers, having a 2.8M forward through next year who can play on the 1st PP unit, PK, score a lot, and is strong defensively is an asset that will help solidify COL as the cup favorite.

Newhook won't be a difference maker in the NHL til at least the 21-22 season (if he does). By then its no certainty COL will still be able to field a top contending team.

You’re just wrong, having the 4th youngest team regardless of cap ensures they are competing for the next decade. Adding any one player and declaring that team a cup favorite is asinine so trite and so not true.

As for the cap, they have enough cap space to sign Makar, Landeskog and Grubauer and Covid cup isn’t a thing forever, and expansion and new tv deals are going to positively affect the cap. In 3 yrs when MacKinnon gets his next contract is when things get tight and having RFA’s like Newhook who projects as the long term 2C matter not a soon to be UFA.

If you’re hanging your hat on Newhook not having an impact because COL isn’t a contender (????) good luck with that

The caps have two young goalies, Samsonov and Vanecek. There’s just no need for Dubnyk. And on top of that, Alexyev is our best defensive prospect. Even if you offered the caps a 1st with Dubnyk, regardless of how well he’s playing, there’s just no need for the caps to add another goalie and dump a prospect with a high ceiling.

Oh and the caps have like 0 cap space so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ya that alright, thought WSH could use a veteran rental, Alexyev was a guess, didn't know how his value was viewed.

Just for reference, caps have alike 4 NHL-capable uninjured goalies under contract right now. Samsonov, Vanecek, Anderson, and Copley. If they’re looking for a rental, I would probably think they’re looking at a middle 6 forward or a higher end offensive defenseman. Just my guess.

Honestly hell yeah. Meier isn't playing well now but I think we could get more for him.

Hertl deal is solid

Would rather trade Burns with less value coming back with also less retention but I get the ambition of landing york. Don't think Philly bites on that though.

I ponder trading Labanc sometimes too but I still have no clue where to and what for.

York I feel is a reach, don't think Philly would move from him, hence the "reach"

I don't think anyone is going to be interested in Labanc right now, that contract killed his value.

Lundqvist is skating again. Samsonov should get back into his groove at some point. Alexeyev is developing well. A 3rd for a rental backup goalie seems good, if there isn't term remaining, and if it's still just Vanecek carrying the whole load at the deadline, but I personally don't see why Anderson still isn't getting starts.

Anderson is 39 and probably just not in good enough shape to be earning starts. Lundqvist is not playing this season, you don't have open heart surgery and just go back to playing a few months later, I'll be shocked if he ever plays again, he's 38 as well...

It could happen. If you're looking for an LHD prospect who's worth about a 3rd, it's Johansen. Alexeyev is still worth a 1st.

Could be anything, Shark's biggest hole are LD prospects, and I haven't heard anything about Alexeyev for a while, now I know.

KHL's current rookie of the month. Nothing amazing, but not too shabby. https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2021/02/02/alex-alexeyev-named-khls-rookie-of-the-month-for-january-will-play-for-team-russia-at-beijer-hockey-games/

Alexeyev is more in that Hertl category.

Meanwhile, Johansen, a former 1st round pick whose older brother plays for Nashville, is barely cracking the lineup in AHL Hershey. Take him. Give back something you're done with. Washington thanks you.

Value may be fair but I don't see the Avs shipping Newhook unless it's something VERY special happening.
