Johansen is a huge gamble unless there is serious retention. Maybe he improves away from whatever is going on in Nashville, but it's risky. I can't see Colorado rolling those dice.

At the same time, Nashville has to gamble on him bouncing back. That return (or likely any return they'll get for him) isn't going to help them become competitive.

I think Ryan Johansen would be a heck of a fit with Colorado - a big playmaking center with some nastiness. But certainly not at 5x$8M. The Avs will be in a tight spot with the cap with their own guys.
I would love to see Ryan Getzlaf end up in Colorado on a rental this season, if he were willing to move on from the Ducks.

How much retention would be needed to make it viable? $2m? $6m x 4 wouldn't be bad, especially if he can continue playing in the playoffs like he has in the past.

NSH is notoriously known for almost never retaining any salary. Think should they deal RyJo, they will move that whole contract.

At full caphit I don't think Sakic would touch it either. $6m AAV though would make it interesting. Avs can throw them some prospects for their trouble too. I'm sure they'd prefer a futures-centric trade too if they're committing to a rebuild too.

Yeah $2M retention at a minimum. Maybe they take out Donskoi from the trade and add Bowers or Kaut and a pick or something. IDK, this is a tough one to really value.

Johansen is just a non starter period. Don’t like his game for COL and hate his contract.
