Trading for a LHD

Description
Given Blake's recent interview on the Fox and Faust podcast, I don't believe the rumors to be true that LA is looking for a "dynamic LHD under 25." However, if they are true, there's a couple guys that the Kings could be interested in.

What do you think these guys would cost? One or the other, not both.

Even if the Kings are offering a 1st + Turcotte? I'm not saying they would, but every player has a price.

Theodore's in the TOP10 of D-men value, considering his contract and his play.

Most likely gonna cost you Byfield+, which in all likelihood will make LA drop their interest.

Do Kings even need another D-men though? They already have 4 D-men to protect in the ExD...

Considering that's the current asking price for Jack Eichel, that seems unlikely.

      I could see something like 1st + Kempe + Kupari/Madden though.

Theodore is a young top 15 dman on an absolute steal of a contract. Vegas hangs up if you don't start with Byfield

Probably not, read the description. This is all based off a rumor reported by Dreger a couple days ago.

Kings eye dynamic, left-shot D in trade

Our LD depth would be trash. Gio Valimaki(not top 4 ready IMO) Kylington isn't top 4 material. We have No one to replace him

I would imagine there would need to be other moves on Calgary's end to shore up the defense if this were to happen. Gaudreau could probably fetch a quality defenseman in return.

      Expectations : Theodore, Hanifin
      Reality : Victor Mete

On a more serious note, Theodore is undoubtedly one of the assets with the most value in hockey. He's a future Norris winner signed at 5m$ for multiple years.

I saw the news about this interview. How close is LA to turning the corner? They might just be better off using their early round picks this year on a few LHD.

I'm not sure a dynamic LHD is something any franchise just trades away.

Playoffs next year, Cup contender by 2023-24, assuming they can make a couple trades to fill in some gaps. If they stand pat and go with with all prospects, it's probably a season or two after that before they're ready to compete.

      I don't disagree, but that's the rumor.

I think he's definitely up there, but I don't think he has as much value as guys like Werenski or Sergachev.

Theodore is on pace to be a Norris contender, in his prime, on a good contract for some term on a contender. Why would he be available?

I think he has tbh, and I'd give him the edge because of the contract. I don't know how much you are into analytics, but Theodore's market value, according to them, is 9,23m$, while being in the first percentile in terms of quality of the competition. Sergachev's is 6,2m$ and Werenski's, in a down year, is 3,84m$

That's the start of an Eichel trade

But it isn't just value in isolation. It's value to the two teams. Why is Vegas signing a top pairing guy in his prime for futures?

Because the Kings would pay a hefty price of 1st round picks and/or talented inexpensive prospects for him (e.g. Turcotte, Kaliyev, ****emo, Kupari, etc.)

But why do they want that when they're competing right now? It just doesn't make sense. They're trying to win. Trading your prime aged #1 LD (frankly #1d he's playing better than Pietro) for futures makes no sense

Not necessarily just futures. They could ask for quality inexpensive roster players also/instead. Guys like Kempe, Vilardi, Bjornfot, Anderson, etc. Gives Vegas cap flexibility to improve elsewhere in the lineup as well.

But they are super weakening themselves at one of the most important positions.

This is like someone offering you a trade for Doughty in the middle of your contending years. It just doesn't make sense

If the Kings were up against the cap and weak at some other positions, then I think they would consider it, especially if they had a Pietrangelo equivalent on the top pair already. Let's say you move out Theodore, but add Bjornfot, Kempe, and Vilardi. You clear $3M in cap space for other improvements while strengthening your middle six on offense.
