Which makes most sense at TDL

Team: 2020-21 Boston Bruins
Team Explanation
Let me know what you think. About these deals. I doubt Hertl will be available but if he is, I am very on board with acquiring him.
Trades
BOS
  1. Hertl, Tomas
Additional Details:
Bruins Bring in a legit top 6 forward with term left (2 years). This gives them a 2 line RW and someone who can play center, giving them flexibility in the offseason depending on Krejci.
SJS
    Debrusk
    2nd Round Pick
    3rd Round Pick

    OR
    Kase
    1st Rounder
    BOS
    1. Virtanen, Jake
    VAN
      conditional 3rd rounder maybe?
I would say his value is pretty low as of right now but there will be those people in here saying "he was a high 1st rounder he has value"
      BOS
      1. Ekholm, Mattias
      NSH
        Vaak
        1st round pick
this should get it done IMO, it may even take less than that
        BOS
        1. Glendening, Luke
        DET
Late round pick. Sweeney loves these type of guys (I honestly wouldn't mind getting him this year if this isn't the only move)
          BOS
          1. Staal, Marc ($2,850,000 retained)
          DET
Late Round Pick depth vet defenseman (bruins need that right now)
            BOS
            1. Bennett, Sam
            CGY
              2nd round pick
Depth forward, who has a decent showing in the playoffs last season so I am not opposed to getting him, but a 2nd might be too high for me.
              BOS
              1. Palmieri, Kyle
              Additional Details:
This is one that I love just like the Hertl trade. An established top 6 guy, proven scorer, plays with grit and fits the Bruins system well.. They have been tied to him for sometime, but as of right now I don't think he is available as the Devils are in the race for a playoff spot so time will tell.
              NJD
                Bjork
                1st rounder
                4th rounder for retention
                Retained Salary Transactions
                • David Backes: $1,500,000 (25%)

Lgd and staal each will cost around a 3rd, especially retained.

Not sure how much RW Hertl has played but I think he has mostly played C in the past years. Anyways, it's not enough for Hertl.
"This gives them a 2 line RW" Bruins have Kase. Same for the Palmieri deal.

Ekholm will depend on what the Bruins can give. Staal sucks, I would play Moore over him. Agreed with Glendening. I'm not of fan of Bennett or Virtanen but one of them could end up being a Bruin so we'll see.

Lets face it, Kase deal was a mistake. Bruins took a chance on him and it has not paid off, so it's time to move on. When Kase is in the lineup, he has proven he is not a top 6 forward. But I think moving Debrusk in the Herlt deal will be enough.

Somethin depending on his performance, like if he plays X amount of games or gets X amount of points

Van passes. The 3rd round pick would need to be in this year's draft.

I think Glendening is worth a 4th at most, but because of how valuable he will be to so many teams this year he may just get a second. I.E Barclay Goodrow getting a 1st (cause of term)

At this point though, something is better than him being a scarth.

I think Virtanen nets a 3rd at the very least.

WHEN are the Bruins going to HAVE Kase and WHEN is he going to produce?

Lets face it, Kase deal was a mistake. Bruins took a chance on him and it has not paid off, so it's time to move on. When Kase is in the lineup, he has proven he is not a top 6 forward. But I think moving Debrusk in the Herlt deal will be enough.

I am not sure how you can say that and then say that you think Debrusk is enough to get Hertl.
Health is certainly a concern for Kase - No doubt, but you said when healthy he isn't a top 6. Interesting because statistically they are almost identical. Kase is cheaper and under team control. They are pretty much the same age as well.

Debrusk played in 13 playoff games and had 4 goals.
Kase played in 11 playoff games and had 4 Assists.

Debrusk has 4pts (1 goal) in his last 16 regular season games.
Kase has 1 pt in 7.5 games with the Bruins.

Kase is also ELITE defensively. JD, not so much.

I get the health thing, and he needs to finish more, but it's there. Thing about stats is they tend to balance out. Yes he is 0 for 26 on SOG since joining the Bruins, but that won't last. He'll go 6/9 over some stretch. He is creating chances. New team, Covid, and injury. I am not willing to call it a mistake. He isn't getting benched. He isn't a empty shirt. He just isn't finishing. Which - JD has 1 goal. One.

If they can get Kase back healthy. It's huge.

100% disagree. It's one of the few great trades done by Sweeney and IMO, he is a top6 F.

He is skating. Kase doesn't have control on his injury.

First, I think Debrusk is a picee in the Hertl deal, hence the 2nd to go with it. And Having someone who is elite defensively but doesn't produce is not what the Bruins need. They need someone not names Marchand Bergeron and Pastrnak to score. They don't have that. With this aging core, they can't wait around for these guys like Debrusk Kase and Bjork to find their scoring touch. They just don't have that time. If they want to win the cup one more time, then they have to sacrifice a piece like Debrusk or Kase or Bjork or Vaak or a 1st to do so. And I think teams see much more potential in Derbsuk than in Kase. Considering the injury risk.

Look. being an "analytical Darling" is nice and all but this team NEEDS DEPTH SCORING.

I don't disagree with moving on, per say. I think the Bruins would be selling very low on Kase. As you would Debrusk. I think they are both better than they have played, but I honestly think Kase ceiling is much higher. I think if you can get Kase healthy, he will be that secondary scoring. I don't want to give up the assets for as similar player. Hertl has also had troubles staying healthy and has only really had one season where he scored. He has one season with more than 22 goals. I believe both Kase and Debrusk could do that. I understand the center aspect, but... Krejci for one more at 5m is a good thing. He is still a 50-60pt center and has always been a playoff beast. Hertl will be UFA and seeking $. Again, I like him, but 1 season with more than 22 goals amd 1 50pts season.

Why Trade Bjork now? I mean obviously if you can get a team to pay on potential, then by all means, but not as an add on. He is cheap and finally playing well.

He is also a potential Seattle pick or lure away from Zboril/Lauzon. Doubtful, but maybe.

I need to see where they are closer to deadline. I am feeling more comfortable with Studnicka. This call up has been noticeably different.

What do you think your getting for Ekholm? That's a 1st + prospect w/ top 4 upside (currently playing 1st pairing w/ McAvoy) whose exempt from the expansion draft.

Yes and you can't control injuries as I said. Personally, the problem isn't only the players; at least, not this year. They needed a RW2 for the past years but they now have enough top9 options (when healthy). Part of the issue is the system and Cassidy is the one that needs to work on that. 4th full season and hasn't been able get it done (so far).

They also need a top4 LD.

Only thing for me is that the first is gonna be late. Throw in a later pick and I’ll be good with it.

Don't put this on Cassidy. His system is fine. His results are the envy of almost every team. Just came up one game short 2 years ago. Funny, wasn't "the system" one of the main reasons they got rid of Claude.

Overall, yes. His 5v5 results, no.

"Just came up one game short 2 years ago"
And the Bruins lost because of what? Couldn't score a 5v5 goal in the finals.

I believe Cassidy is one of the best coaches in this league but 5v5 is the only thing the Bruins are lacking and the problem isn't the personal only.

One season over 22g. One season over 46pts. It's not that far off. That is assuming either of these guys starts producing. If they don't, you are right.
