Description

My two cents about a trade that will never happen.

I think that this is a fair offer despite the oft-repeated "Gibson Fallacy" ("since no center has ever been traded for such a big package, then Jack Eichel isn't worth this package"). To save you the effort, the centers in Group A were drafted second overall, fifth overall, and eleventh overall. The Sabres also get another high-quality center prospect, two roster players and this year's first-round draft pick. Byfield and Cozens will eventually form a superlative one-two punch down the middle and this move might persuade Eric Staal to re-up to provide a bridge to that pair. Anderson-Dolan is an excellent possibility to eventually play #3 C over Mittelstadt and Thompson. Clague (or MacDermid) would be an excellent fill-in until Jake McCabe is healthy.

I have Byfield on the current roster but no one believes that he is ready for the NHL yet. I just thought that Buffalo fans would like to imagine him on the team.

I think that this offer competes with the Colorado offer I've seen recently of Nazem Kadri, Alex Newhook, Martin Kaut, Conor Timmins and their 2021 first.

Seems cost prohibitive. Wouldn’t you be better keeping those pieces and developing them on your own. Remember one player can’t win on their own and if you spend so much to get Eichel you’re going to hurt your team long term versus just being patient.

No, we have one of the three best prospect pools in the League. Our future roster is so deep that with Kopitar and Eichel at center, Vilardi moves to RW and Turcotte becomes our #3C. The others are similar.
