Description

To be fair Jack Eichel is an absolute beast. I dont think he fits in with the rangers considering the cap hit and what it will take to get him. Buf cant have Laf, Kakko, or Fox. Those guys are the future core and in my mind untouchable. The only weakness the rangers roster/prospect pool has is in the center position. I do think Chytil will be a legit 2C and im praying Mika can get back the magic he had last year (I think he will). Idk to be honest im pretty happy where the team is right now and I dont think it would be wise to blow up ELC years on future stars to go get a struggling pissed off star right now

i dont think the rangers have what it takes to acquire eichel. Yes, they they technically have the pieces, but i know that they dont want to give Laf, Kakko, or fox up. That is what buffalo would want to start a eichel trade

I think New York would be stupid not to trade Kaako + a fair bit for Eichel if that was on the table. Even Laf for that matter. Rangers have a log jam at wing and that could take the C core to the next level

You’re exactly right on why we shouldn’t do it. We have the pieces, but those pieces are to valuable to our team long term. Eichel is without a doubt a top player in the game but your right he doesn’t fit with the current direction of the team.

Then all we have on the right side is Buch. Kravtsov isn’t a sure thing and no other high end talent on that side. It’d be a mistake.

We’ve built up a nice prospect pool but I’m not ready to empty it for one guy. A lot of them are on the brink of joining the NHL. Prefer to chase a 2C and top 4 LD

I think out LHD is figured out. Miller and Lindgren have been beasts. Also that is our strongest position in terms of prospects. 2C yes we need.

Eichel doesn't behave like a leader. I understand he is sick and tired of the mess in BUF (and frankly, who wouldn't be?) but really even Sabres fans have said his attitude is problematic.

And knowing we are a team that lacks leaders, I'm not sure that's the kind of player I'd want

I think people over value what it would take to land eichel. In my opinion COVID has caused serious strain on most organizations. Very very few teams can afford to pay one player that much most will need to spread that money out over multiple positions. Rangers are in excellent position to make a very aggressive offer but still much less than what the offers I believe would have been offered before COVID.
