A Deal with the Devil

Created by: Mr_Gardoki
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 27, 2021
Published: Feb. 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I will say that I really don't understand if the Devils are still planning for a few years our or trying to compete right now, so this trade may not make sense for them.
Trades
1.
2.
NJD
  1. Poulin, Samuel
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Poulin is a legit prospect, but the Pens need help now, not later. He's probably another year or two away, so it fits more in the Devils plans.
3.
PIT
  1. Lowry, Adam
  2. Perreault, Mathieu
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
McCann is a cheap replacement for Perrault with one more year. Perrault fits more what the Pens are looking for.
WPG
  1. McCann, Jared
  2. Pettersson, Marcus
Additional Details:
The deal is essentially Pettersson for Lowry + 2nd.

Devils are still hoping for a chance this year, but will likely be sellers.
This deal works well for NJD.
But to be honest, PIT could probably do better.
Maybe NJD retains 50% salary and make the pick a conditional 3rd pick

this isn't even close. Gusev sucks, there is no way in hell they trade Poulin for him. None, at all. They won't be trading Kap for a rental either. Just horribly one sided .

I totally would, but unfortunately the Pens don't have a third, so I went with the 2nd, but I'd definitely take some retention for that.

All those deals are very unfavorable to the pens. Gusev 50% retained for a 2nd only is fair. He has been kinda bad this year.
Kapanen for a rental is a terrible deal. How is Perreault more what they are looking for? Are they looking to get older and take on cap dumps? McCann has speed and a shot. How is that not what the pens are looking for? Lol and a top 4 d signed long term to a reasonable contract for a rental and a 2nd. How does that help the pens for the Crosby, Malkin, Letang window. All this does is tells those players that this is it. This is the last year we are going for it then prepare to suck for the next 5-10 years.

MTL deal doesnt make sense. You are sending a young player who is under contract for a forward who can walk out on who at the end of the year. He will require more money than Kapanen and he is a lefty, so our right side will be weaker.
I see your point with Poulin. If the Pens were ever to move him, I think it would be for a young player and not a rental, especially not Gusev.
Once again, WPG is getting 2 young players under contract while we get two upcoming UFAs and a 2nd.. not a fan.

No from Winnipeg. The Jets finally have good center depth and they won't give that up for an LD they don't really need.

Done. And can make it a 2022 or 2023 conditional 3rd pick (if PIT goes to conference finals or "semi-finals" or whatever they are calling it this year).

Great trade for the Jets but the Pens wouldn't do it.
