If Botterils bad trades didnt happen

Description
Tell me if I forgot anything

I resigned skinner to 6.5 for 5 years. You need to reward him for his 40 goals, but giving him 9 mil makes no sense.

Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Foligno, Marcus
Additional Details:
I did not like the idea of trading Foligno. Was nice to have Pomivnille back, but I would still rather have Foligno. I assume Ennis would be off Buffalo by now
MIN
2.
BUF
  1. Gambrell, Dylan
Additional Details:
Would of been nice to get a player rather than Danny O'Regan back for Evander Kane. I saw awhile ago that Gambrell was someone who interested Buffalo when it came to trading Kane
SJS
3.
BUF
  1. Guhle, Brendan
Additional Details:
This is laughable. At least the 1st was like 28th
4.
BUF
  1. Deslauriers, Nicolas
Additional Details:
I wish we could of kept D-Lo, one of my favourite players
ANA
5.
BUF
  1. O'Reilly, Ryan
Additional Details:
This was the worst trade in Sabres history, like I don't even know what this is
STL
  1. Thompson, Tage
Additional Details:
Ryan Johnson (drafted with 1st)
6.
BUF
  1. Kahun, Dominik
Additional Details:
I give botteril credit, definitely his second best move as GM (behind Jokiharju trade). So ill pretend that Adams didn't let him walk and be ill be nice to Jason.
EDM
7.
BUF
Considering if we still had ROR, Johansson wouldn't of been signed, meaning Staal wouldn't be on Buffalo
    8.
    BUF
If Botterill didnt hire Kruger, I don't see a reason why Hall would sign here. Assuming Skinner doesn't fall off a cliff under another coach
      9.
      BUF
      1. Sergachev, Mikhail
      Additional Details:
I know drafting Nylander was Tim Murry's move. But I just want to pretend that we drafted Sergachev over Nylander. This unfortunately means that Jokiharju would never become a Sabre
      10.

Why do you guys love torturing yourselves so much? Every time I see one of these trade reversal fantasy AGMs, it's a Sabres fan. Granted, you guys probably have the most ammunition for them, but still.

You ever see that spongebob meme where the fish wearing the backpack on the hill is just standing there on fire? Thats an accurate representation of sabres fans.

I have a lot of regret over that O'Reilly trade, too, but my regret is that I didn't push harder for the Caps to get him. smile

That first in the Anahiem trade was Brayden Tracey

Im curious what your offer was. Its not like you could have offered less. We actually paid to get rid of him.

I haven't changed screen names, but it's a whole lot of posts back, and probably mostly on the Caps side. All I remember (edited: someone) asking me, "why do we want a 3C that makes $6M" and me being like, "mphhhhhhh!!!!"

      edit:
don't look at this one that Buffalo fans passed on: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/642830 That's embarrassing...
..but at least someone accepted the same thing on the Buffalo side: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/124408

Here's an even worse one for the Caps: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/605182

in my defense, the Caps had announced they didn't want to pay Carlson the amount I was already sure he was worth, and I was sure they'd lose him for nothing, as well as lose Burakovsky for nothing in free agency later. As far as evaluating B prospects, there's just not much information that fans at home get, but I'm learning ot pay more attention to what there is.

and in hindsight, here's an offer a Buffalo fan made, that I correctly noticed the Caps hugely won: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/645384

Goes to show it's hard to predict how players will develop and evolve over time.

Worst. Gm. Ever. As he is gone, and best forgotten, i think the concern now should be- just how much he made these awful decisions on his own, and how much pegula pulled the strings. I think the ror trade and skinner extensions are most concerning, as these are the moves where it seems most likely that the owner was pushing him to double down on stupid.

I dont think the pegulas are as involved as anyone thinks, or else the Bills would suck too

At the time, O'regan probably had higher value than Gambrell, coming off of AHL rookie of the year and slowly making his way to the NHL, Gambrell was barely over a point per game on the 2nd best NCAA team.

I thought ror was because they wanted to trade him (if they were going to) before they had to pay his 7.5m roster bonus. That was the rumor anyways. The skinner thing is so bizarre, i just assumed that pegula told botterill "sign this 40 goal scorer, whatever it takes". Skinner had so little leverage- if he wanted to play in or near toronto, we were the only team that remotely fit his narrow criteria, why the hell did botterill overpay him by 3 million dollars a year?
