Imagine wanting two 10M players on your second line. It's just a bad idea, man.

Why? I’m not a TML fan but I think Kerfoot would be a good fit in OTT, young enough to fit in, experienced enough to be a good leader and skilled enough to play in the top 6. If I’m OTT I jump on that deal who is OTT going to get in the 3rd rd that is going to help them more than Kerfoot would?

ok but the odds of finding an NHL player better than Kerfoot in the third round are very, very low.

I don’t mind the fit with Kerfoot but is he worth 2 high third round picks. Both of those would likely be in the late 60’s

First off, Batherson, Wolanin, Dzingel, Pageau, Hoffman, Stone and Borowiecki were all taken by Ottawa in the 4th or later rounds; but let's put that aside.
For me, this is about Kerfoot being overpaid for what he brings. He has two more seasons before being UFA and he would most definitely NOT be in Ottawa's top 6.
Considering the cap is staying put and the expansion draft is coming fast - Ottawa should have many better options; I just hope they do this right.

then what are you expecting? if the sabres decide to blow it up or he wants out, getting a 24 y/o legit top 6 forward under contract for 4 years at a reasonable cap hip, 2 top-flight defensive prospects, a high end forward prospect and 2 first round picks would be a fantastic return imo, id even say its an overpayment to be completely honest

Hitting on 3rd picks or later even getting an NHL player isn’t a recipe for success. The fact OTT did is a testament to luck more than the value of late picks because as expected after the 1st rd the odds of a player playing playing in more than 99 NHL games (just playing)drops from 74% to 34% in the 2nd to the mid 20’s for the 3rd to under 20% . OTT isn’t good period, and worrying about losing ONE player in the XD is how teams got cute and helped create a contender in VGK (looking right at FLA, MIN and CBJ), or cap space when there is plenty and eschewing some consideration for leadership and professionalism is a mistake. Now this is all just my take but would it really be a bad thing for OTT to add a guy who can play center and wing, because who is really a top 6 guy on OTT right now that would be a top 6 guy on a good team? Tkachuk, Stuetzle, Dadonov the rest are a mix of young haven’t proven it yet like Norris and Batherson or guys who are probably better suited for the bottom 6. Really for 2 3rd picks I don’t see the down side but that’s just my take.

With a success rate of what 25% and getting a player in 3 or 4 years? At some point OTT has to convert some of their draft capital into viable NHL talent, and there is a lot to be said about bringing in a guy who has been a part of winning culture. But that’s just me, looks like a low risk deal for OTT.

Hey dude, completely unrelated to your ACGM... I can't remember if you're a baseball/blue Jays fan? I'm pretty sure you are but I haven't been on here in a while.

I never said it was a recipe for success, I was merely pointing out that Ottawa has found a lot of good / great players in later rounds. Ottawa could do much better with that roster spot and cap room. To be very blunt, I don't like Kerfoot. He doesn't have the talent to play top 6 and he doesn't fit into our bottom 6 well at all. He's not hard to play against; he doesn't even forecheck. And your comment on Batherson and Norris is just wrong. Norris is bigger, faster, has better possession stats, way better face-off stats (while taking draws as a 1st line pivot) and his .52 p/gp is better than Kerfoot's. And he's 5 years YOUNGER than Kerfoot, and currently 2nd in rookie scoring. BATHERSON has a better p/gp right now than Kerfoot has ever had. He's 22.

mildly yes. Don't watch it religiously like I do the NHL and the Leafs but I am a Jays fan and keep tabs on the team and MLB
