Ehlers>Nylander
Copp>Kerfoot
Lowry>>>>>>>>>>>>>Galchenyuk.

The second doesn't come close to making up the difference.

Don't see the Jets having interest in that.

I may be slightly biased but every player on Jets side is better than their counter part coming back.

dude I never said that copp and Lowry are better than nylander. I said they’re better than their counterpart, which in this trade Lowry is essentially traded for Galchenyuk, Copp for Kerfoot and Ehlers for Nylander. With that in mind every player is worth more than their counterpart, which is exactly what I said. Even the 2nd doesn’t makeup for the value difference between the players.

I am surprised that was interpreted the way it was.

Ionically Ehlers was the guy I wanted the leafs to take when they took Willy, but I'm not sure Ehlers is better

They're career production is really similar at 0.32 gpg and 0.72 ppg for Ehlers to 0.29 gpg and 0.72 ppg for Nylander

Over the last two seasons
Ehlers 91 GP 36 g and 80 points
Nylander 90 gp 39 g 76 points

They're both consistently positive possession players in softer minutes by zone start

Nylander has the advantage of some ability to play c but their both primarily wingers.

Also why is Copp better than kerfoot?

Kerfoot has produced significantly more offensively and has similar possession numbers

Galchenyuk is a waiver wire player. No arguments

I like Ehlers better in every aspect of the game, especially outside of offensive production. His possession numbers are stupid, Willy does get the advantage by playing C though.

Copp is better than kerfoot, more offensive production, better CF% and copp is definitely better defensively. Copp is worth more to the Jets than kerfoot would be.

Lowry is undeniably better than the waiver claim Galchenyuk but that doesn’t mean much.

I think the main idea is that the guys on WPGs side are so much more valuable to them than what’s coming back. Nylanders ability to play C doesn’t really move the needle as WPG has 4 guys who can play C in the top 6.

It's basically what @tsyls says above for Ehlers over Nylander and Copp over Kerfoot. I think it's also time to give up the "Nylander can play center" diatribe as well. He's never played center in the NHL other than as an injury replacement, so everyone knows he's not and probably never could be used as a full time center. His game just doesn't lend itself to being a center in the NHL.

Jets aren't trading three NHLers for two NHLers. And please don't include Galychenuk in any trades. It's like the past three seasons but Bracco in an NHL trade.

Just to add about Nylander at centre. Though he could be trained to be a centre....March isn't the time "to see if he's a fit" at centre for the Jets (or the Leafs.

He spent his first partial season as a c in the NHL. They were developing him as a c until they drafted Matthews.

When he was playing with Matthews we was still getting 500 or so faceoffs per year

He has taken 1650 or so to Ehlers 20.

I am not calling him a centre. I said he has some ability. It gives you roster flexibility when injuries occur

But I did not call him a c. It's just more he's a player who can play all three positions type thing which has a small but existent amount of value

I'm curious why you say Copp has more offensive production? Kerfoot has produced way more offensively. He has a pair of 20 goal seasons and is about a half a point per game player. Copp I think career high is like 28 points...

In the end the trade does not make sense for either team I was just curious about the direct comparison

I’m speaking directly about this season. Copp is producing more, and will continue to produce more as he’s getting more opportunities in Winnipeg now. Copp also can play in the top 6, he proved he can stick there early this year.

Sure but this year is a tiny sample size. I'll look at their career production. Kerfoot has been a much better offensive contributor for years.

Also had more opportunities in Toronto and COL than copp has had in wpg. Kerfoot averages over a minute more ice time per game than copp. Also copp has only ever played a full 82 games once in his career. Kerfoot has never played a full 82, but had way more opportunity with Colorado and Toronto. Also copp just brings a lot of defensive stability, PK ability and PP ability.

Yeah I assume Copp has more defensive game. I think Kerfoots is underrated, in that he's solid/good and people act like he's bad. But he's nothing special defensively.

Just found your comment re offensive odd, but you clarified.

Fun convo with you and @Windjammer

All the best to you both
