Players who should be available for trade

Created by: Random2152
Team: 2020-21 Custom Team
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2021
Published: Mar. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Doesn't mean they are, but they should be for various reasons (mostly) at this deadline.
Note, bad players should always be available and have no demand, so they are (mostly) not here

This is just my jumbo list for reference. There might be some depth guys not included, but these are the higher profile and interesting ones imo.

Murphy has been the hawks best defensemen, so it will take an overpay for the hawks to trade him or the hawks won't trade him at all and Kane is one of the best players in the leauge rn and he isn't available.

That is kind of the point. You aren't cup contenders and they are at high points value wise. Wanna know a great way to speed up your re-build? Trade older players for crazy dragon hauls

Blackhawks are 6th place in the league right now and is currently in a playoff spot, but if things go south, potential hawks player that would be moved at the TDL would be Strome, Zadorov, Janmark, Wallmark, Soderberg, and maybe de Haan

I don't know what to tell you if you think this hot streak is sustainable. Whether you think you can make the playoffs this year is irrelevant - you aren't a cup contender and last I checked no one cares about just making the playoffs. Ask Leafs fans, or late stage Detroit fans

Ask Buffalo fans what selling aimlessly and bottom feeding for as long as they have will get you.

You're a Hawks fan. You should know more than most that selling for high picks works. And no one said to sell aimlessly and have no vision.
The Hawks are a team on the downswing - that is undeniable. Can they make the playoffs one or twice more - maybe even win a round? Its the NHL so anything is possible but this team is clearly in decline and on the older side. Moving a few key pieces at high points value wise could net you huge returns that can lower your age rapidly, bring in high end prospects and put this team back on the upswing in a year or two.

Like Kane is getting early Hart consideration - you could demand nearly any prospect in the league for him and the team would still have to add more. You have a few nice pieces already, being able to add many more very quickly could lead to a fast rebound.

I like the Hawks for exactly that reason. If the GM thinks more long term about it you could absolutely come out of this season looking like rockstars and set the franchise up for the next decade. On the other hand if your management decides they are actually good enough now and stands pat, the rebuild that is coming (and may have already started?) will be much longer. If they chose to add this year, it could potentially hurt you for years down the line for not much gain in the now.

Having played like 3 games more than the teams around you. Chicago are not a better team than Carolina or Winnipeg or Boston, or the islanders, or philadelphia. All these teams will pass Chicago when they catch up in games played. Chicago should pull the shoot, especially when Kane is like THIS. You could get back a STUPID amount for him.

I disagree with your assessment that the Hawks are a team on the downswing and on the older side. While our prospect pool is somewhat shallow at the moment, this is due to the recent graduations of our high profile guys to the NHL. I think there’s a balance that needs to be struck with veteran and youth on any team, including rebuilding teams, and if you screw that balance up you might end up messing up prospect development and even develop a culture of loosing. That’s not to say selling is wrong in all cases, it just depends on team structure.

Look at the Blackhawks team structure, Youth is practically overflowing and the next generation of Blackhawks seem like they are going to be alright.

To put it lightly I disagree greatly with your assessment of the Hawks. Lets put a pin in this and revisit in a few years

Why should the Blues make a guy who should rightfully be a Norris finalist at this juncture available for trade when they are chasing Cups?

First of all, Norris? Really dude? Like come on he's been good but REALLY? Just no. Stop it.
Secondly and far more importantly, I am not confident that this is the real Faulk. That contract scares the **** out of me and I think he is far more likely to regress badly to something closer to where he was last season. He is playing well right now, getting out of that contract could end up saving you a lot of hassle in the future. He is one of the few guys who should maybe be off season tho, although for the right return moving him sooner carries less risk.

About 70% of these players definitely won't be available for trade

Yeah, he's undeniably been one of the very top defenseman so far this season. It's not exactly a hot take, several outlets have said the same thing. He may regress. His contract may be a trap. But that's not what I was talking about. And the idea of moving him during the season is obviously ludicrous.

An example of what I was talking about. And though not exactly a Norris watch article, this one also give credit when due.

Seriously, he's been a joy to watch. We'd be screwed right now without him. And I'm as surprised at his play as anyone.

It depends what the "should" means. A number of players are overpaid and should be moved but their teams will still keep them.

My definition of "should be available" among this list: Hall, Henrique, Bennett, Staal, Connolly, Granlund, Palmieri, Gusev, Virtanen, Pearson, Stecher, DeAngelo, de Haan, Ekholm and Murray, Butcher. The rest, idk.

I'm making assessments of where the team is and making value calls on whether a player would have more value kept vs being moved. It is why meier is here for example bc I think the sharks rebuild will be a long painful one that would waste his prime and moving him for huge value sooner would ultimately be better for them long term.
