Yeah the best thing to do is trade him Buffalo cant make the playoffs if their lives depended on it and mostly all the big name rookies that came to the league the last few years like Mcdavid Matthews Pasternak Etc have all been to the playoffs and Eichel hasnt even played one playoff game.

If I were him, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that city for longer than absolutely necessary. Career killer.

Bad trade with Flames. Monahan is definitely not the answer.

Monahan is definitely not the answer. Age, term, he even in Calgary does not seem to cope, what will he do in Buffalo without Johnny Hockey?

Monahan may not be the answer (rebuild is the answer) but he is a low end 1C or high end 2C. The Sabres should be hoping Cozens is their future 1C (if Eichel is gone) moving Monahan into a role fit for him. Plus you get 2 1sts and Bennett who has value.

It doesn't make sense. If we trade in Eichel, then it is better to do it for the young parts, and not for Monahan, who will be without Gaudreu and will not be so good in Buffalo. I would easily take Suzuki+ from Montreal than Monahan+ from Calgary. Bennett has no serious value at all, and the first rounds should return in trade anyway, but not as a base.

So you are under the impression that Monahan is only good because he is with Gaudreau? Couldn't He find chemistry with Reinhart or Olafsson? How do you know he will be **** in BUF? A lot of speculation on your part.

I don't think MTL gives up Suzuki.

I often read fan opinions and watch games sometimes. Monahan is not what we want. Olofsson, Reinhart and Skinner are not top types of players to lead the line, nor is Monahan a great playmaker for these players. It is not suitable for age and term. This package is not suitable anyway.

Sakic doesn't trade firsts so far, and definitely won't (with additional pieces) for Staal

Sakic also doesn't have a 3rd line C that is any good and would need to move out some cap so Calvert as a cap dump makes sense. Cap dumps aren't free

Avs don't need to dump cap yet, and by the deadline should be able to afford a 3C salary in trade.
Guys like Haula and Tierney are suitable complements that should come cheaper.

Even so, Pateryn is the dump at that price. Maybe Compher, but he doesn't hold as negative a value.
Calvert is either an important part of the playoff roster (the record reflects that) or on LTIR.

Ok, either way, Staal is a really good fit, the pieces are semantics.

No it isn't. Even though BUF is dog crap, Hall still has 12 points in 19 games. That isn't awful. There is a 0% chance Hall goes somewhere without a 1st coming back.

Don’t disagree he is a good fit, but given no 2nd rd picks, Sakic absolutely not trading 1st rd picks and the fact he would be a pure rental I’d be good with figuring out a package minus a 1st. But the Avs have to balance salaries which makes deals a little tougher as well.

Which is why it became a 1st. BUF has to take salary back and that costs something. A very late 1st isn't all that valuable.

Staal is a good fit for the Avs 3C spot but not at that price. Avs pass.
