Jesse Puljujarvi is not a bust, he just had a bad agent and he just needed a year in Europe

I agree with he's not a bust. I don't think it was a much his agent though. EDM rushed him into the NHL too fast. I put the blame on Chia and the organization.

Oilers botched him ELC and their medical staff messed around with him...Oilers are probably the most to blame here, if it wasn't for JP taking his career into his own hands, he could have turned into a NHL bust if he didnt go to Europe to get healthy

I don't think he's a bust, but I also don't think he's going to become a bonified top line winger either. Hindsight is 20/20, and I agree with @exo2769 that he was rushed, but imagine if this team had of taken Sergachev or McAvoy.

Pretty weak draft year overall though...it was super-hyped because of Matthews/Laine (Remember when people thought Laine was better?!?!!), but full of holes after the top 3.

Not a bust, per say, but not exactly a great 4th overall pick. Es specially since he was touted to be challenging for top pick in the years leading up to that draft. Did the Oilers rush him into their lineup? Damned right. I feel bad for the guy, but he is a mulligan worthy draft pick.

Exactly. He’s not a “bust”, but certainly a disappointing for a 4th overall pick. He probably peaks as a middle 6 forward. EDM could certainly use him, but he won’t ever reach his expectations

Never considered him a bust his skill was always there to see. Combo of mis use from Todd and unwillingness from charelli to find a suitable place for development also putting off surgery that was very obviously needed didn’t take a medical examiner to see something wasn’t right in his stride when he’s moving as fast as lucic but considered an excellent skater.... THANK GOD Holland didn’t throw in the towel and let him slip away.

draft spots aren't guarantees to success and the odds past 1OA fall off hard, the development curve is steeper even at #4 imo. people who called bust were jumping to conclusions way too early (i'd say atm is too early as well) and comparisons to the other '16s are meaningless, they're all their own players. no shame in developing elsewhere. he may not end up in a slot typical of top-end picks but edmonton has plenty of those already + depth is fine. depth is needed. i like where he fits now, it's a good spot for him. hope pulju ends up having a great career after the scrutiny he faced in his entry-level years, nothing gets the blood boiling like the classic top prospect dogpile.
