Ekholm - Cup Contender

Created by: DirtyDangles
Team: 2020-21 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2021
Published: Mar. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sure we lose Frost but is there really any roster spot for him? Zamula hurts too but he isn't NHL proven and we have York coming soon. Gus is a dump/Ekholm replacement for the remainder of the season.

I'd rather give up a first the lose both Frost and Zamula. I don't think Frost would even be in a trade for a guy who would most likely be a rental unless they feel like they can 100% get a deal with Seattle to not take Ekholm

If you are contending for a Cup, the expansion draft doesn't matter. I think Frost is 100% in any deal for Ekholm. The other pieces are up in the air. Could be just picks or another prospect. Luckily we have an abundance of assets.

He did for a bit last season when injuries forced him to and he actually looked pretty good. So he can play the right side, but probably more comfortable on the left.

I think the Muzzin trade is a great comparable to what this trade could look like. Both Muzzin and Ekholm were/would be brought in to be the number to guys on the team both coming from clubs entering a rebuild . Muzzin got two b prospect and a first I think it will be something similar to that I don't see what most people view as the best prospect in the organization to be traded for a "rental". While I agree that the expansion draft doesn't completely matter because a good player is going to be going to Seattle no matter what trading valuable pieces like Frost and Zamula for a guy who would be left exposed and most likely taken and then having nothing to show for that trade (unless they win the cup) is poor asset management. I'm definitely all for going into win now mode but the widow is just opening and as much as I would love to ignore expansion its still something I'd be cautious of

There is no roster spot for Frost unless you want to stick him on the 4th line. He is expendable.

From Nashville's Perspective:

I'd be perfectly happy with Frost, whatever cap equalizer needed, and a mid round pick. Adding Zamula seems like overpayment to me but one I'd gladly take.

Laughton is a UFA who knows if he back next season I sure hope he is but thats not certain. Lets say JVR or Voracek are taken by Seattle they could move Frost to a wing and play him there or have Patrick play wing and Frost play 3C. I'm fine with moving Frost but what I'm trying to get as is I don't think needs to be moved in this situation. If he goes he goes and thats fine but with Nashville's situation and no top center prospects I don't think all that much needs to be added IF he is the prospect moved

I would accept this deal as Nashville.
