Deadline moves

Created by: Green4D4
Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 28, 2021
Published: Mar. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Stepan: Gone for the year (Shoulder). Sucks that it ends up this way as he was starting to look a little better out there.

Anisimov: Looked alright between Stutzle and Batherson ;) (who wouldn't). Probably won't be moved but might be thrown to the taxi squad. Cheap pick or waiver claim.

Gudbranson: I like the local boy. Brings some nice physicality to the game. Problem is there will be a log jam on D and I don't know if he fits in long term. A team might pick him up for some depth. He's also slow A-F.

Reilly: While he hasn't been bad, his defensive zone coverage is hilarious. Should be used in the O-zone only.

JBD and Pinto are playing in the NHL after their tenure at UND so PD has to make some moves.

That's fair. It's around what he's worth TBH. Not going to get a whole lot for him, if anything.

Recall that two "NHL" forwards and one D under contract in 21-22 must be exposed in the Seattle draft. Austin Watson and ? (Josh Brown is the one required "NHL" D).

Chris Tierney. Ottawa protects Brady Tkachuk, Drake Batherson, Evgeni Dadonov, Nick Paul, Colin White, Connor Brown and then either Logan Brown or Vitaly Abramov.

Edit: Alternatively, they protect Tierney and leave Paul open, but it's more likely they let Tierney go as he's currently playing as their 4C and projects to be replaced fairly easily.

In my opinion, there is no way that Paul is exposed. Tierney? He has value. How about protect him as well, by extending Dzingel for one year at 2 - 2.5m? Or Anisimov one year @ $1m?

It's less about leaving Tierney exposed to satisfy the requirement and more about leaving Tierney exposed because they've already protected 6 people that are more important, those being Tkachuk, Batherson, Dadonov, White, Paul and C. Brown. It comes down to Tierney, L. Brown or Abramov for the final spot and it should without a doubt be Brown's until he's off the team.

If they are going to leave Tierney exposed, why not trade him at the TDL and get something for him. He would be a good pickup for a contending team.

not because of Gudy. He played well here, no one thinks badly of him for his time here. It's just we have way to many defensemen as is.

I agree that they should, but whoever they trade him to would also have to protect him. Either they have to pick a team with an open forward slot (so like, Chicago, Detroit, San Jose, maybe Edmonton, maybe Toronto?) or they go with a team that could have so many available options that they could feasibly sneak Tierney through (like Carolina if they protect 4 D to keep Bean). It limits the options quite a bit, but there could still be a match somewhere.
