Rangers get a true #1 C while the Sabres get young RW, decent young G, center to replace Eichel, and solid defensive prospect along with 2 first round picks. I don't get why some Rangers fans won't trade Kaako in a deal for Eichel. I get that he is improving, but I rather have a proven elite #1 center.

If the Rangers have the 6th OA pick why are they trading a 2nd for Staal???

Seattle would need to be compensated to take Thompson...

Sorry @Devil1122 just saw the 50% retained in the description. Good trade for both sides

    I'd trade a 2021 1st for Risto now, wouldn't trade a 2022 1st for him as a rental though.

Eichel is already an Elite #1 C. Kaako and Lundkvist COULD be 1st line/pair. I don't see it happening in NY with Laf, Panarin, Buch, Kravtsov all competing with that spot with Kaako. And knowing David Quinn, Kaako is going to play 3rd line. Rangers already have Trouba and Fox as their RHD. It would be hard for Lundqvist to pass Fox as #1 RHD

Yeah that trade was meant to be for now (2021 TDL/2021 Offseason). I did a 2022 1st to spread out the picks

Kakko out for Kravtsov, Strome out for Buchnevich (if Buffalo prefers that)
    or
Kakko out for Kravtsov, Strome out for Chytil, 2022 1st to 2022 2nd

EDIT: Base pieces of Georgiev, Lundkvist, 2021 unprotected 1st all make sense as the basis for the trade to be built around, but asking for Kakko is too much for the Rangers, Kravtsov is more reasonable.

I meant at the top. It could be any team. I chose NY since they needed centers the most.

Kaako has to be in the deal or else Buffalo doesn't consider it.

rangers really dont need eichel all they have to do is draft a center with a likely high pick and let him develop. or they can trade for one thats not going to cost half of our best prospects

2021 Draft is very weak. None of them will turn out as good as Eichel. Trading for another center could be hard. There's a small market for top 6 centers.

i would rather have beniers/kent johnson and keep all out prospects and sign danault or keep strome.

To put it simply, play relative to contract. Kakko is currently on an ELC, whereas Eichel is making 10m. Trying to fit the Eichel contract into the team cap causes too many other dominos to fall. Zibanejad is 100% gone if we get Eichel, and I don't think Eichel is worth Kakko+Lundkvist+Georgiev+1sts and then losing Zibanejad (who i think is due some significant positive regression relative to this season). Buchnevich is another piece that'd likely have to go.

Kakko has shown a very good 2 way game this season, and he's likely to improve significantly further.

Lundkvist will pass trouba soon enough (he can be #1D caliber and still not be better than fox), and DQ will 100% play kakko over kravtsov until kravtsov plays otherwise

$8 mill for 3rd pair d would be rough. I doubt DQ puts him over Panarin Laf Buch or Kreider tbh even though he should
