Hyman Is A Treasure and Must Be Kept

Created by: PhillyDip123
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 2, 2021
Published: Mar. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hyman is so good. If it's between Hyman and Andersen.... I don't know. He makes every line he's on better.

Yeah, it's a bit early to tell for sure if Engvall's been decent enough as the 3C to judge whether or not to keep him there, but I've liked what I've seen so far.

Nice having kessels money off the books next year should make it a lot easier to resign him

That third line of Soup-Engvall-Hyman has been the best against the Oilers in the last two games - hands down.

I would love for the Leafs to keep Hyman, I just don't know how realistic it is to do so.

Dubas just may need to find a similar player at a bargain based on the make up of the team. Alot of what happens in the off-season hinges on the results of these coming playoffs.

Kessels money (added as a raise) on an 8 year deal should be close.

I’m not sure what the term will be but I think term and nmc can bring down his aav.

Just took a look and that retained money has another year left. Still if you can get Hyman at 3-4m you can make the money work.

Gee, Engvall is started to look like Hyman junior. Not saying Engvall is ever going to be offensively productive, but he can make plays and is fearless is trying to maintain puck control.

Hyman is Toronto based with his family and his own businesses. Money may not be priority for him. I still think the Leafs might have to trade a high priced forward (Nylander) for cap reasons next season.

Well you make good points but this also raises other questions like, what's going to happen with goaltending.

I didn't think they would be able to keep Hyman and Andersen (assuming Andersen has a above average performance in the playoffs and really that is only reason I'd want him back).

If the Leafs decide to move on from Andersen, I don't know if cheaper options are available. So really that is the conundrum IMO.

You are right. The only caveat is that Hyman has been playing like he has since he entered the league while Engvall is showing similar play just this season.

It was amazing so many did not see the value of Hyman early in NHL career. He's playing the same way, just better.
Being an interesting road for Engvall. 7th round pick...lots of time in Europe, playing in various leagues where he was never a star, Then Marlie time. Great fortitude.

Gotta give props to coach Keefe and his staff. What a change in atmosphere (I imagine) for the Leaf players compared to the draconian reign of Babcock.

I was one of those guys in 2016-2017 saying "We should get Matthews a more skilled linemate". Dude completely proved me wrong, just shows up and rocks it. He's been playing at a hair under a 60 point pace these last two seasons and looks to be even more dangerous on the third line.

Literally tons of cheaper options out there through ufa and trade.
