What is the future for Buchnevich

Description
Another player I feel the organization is going to have to take a long look at his future is Pavel Buchnevich. He’s a rfa who needs a new deal after this year. Been pretty consistently on the top line with Mika and Kreider although he’s usually the one demoted for shakeups. Career of 0.6 pts per game doesn’t scream top line but that’s not always where he’s been positioned. He has really rounded out his game to be reliable in the d zone and become one of their most effective penalty killers this season. No doubt he’ll be looking for a raise and some stability with a longer term deal. There is a buildup of young RW players coming through the system in Kakko, Kravtsov and Gauthier who are better served playing on higher lines with skilled players. So the question on here is if he’s available then what’s his market and value? He’s most effective playing on a skilled line and do any top teams need wingers? If he is moved I’d imagine they try to keep it to a west team or non division east team. I’m leaning toward a team on the playoff bubble or one looking for some roster shakeup. Will have expansion draft implications so will have to be accounted die by the acquiring team. My top fits would be Calgary, Chicago, Edmonton, Florida, Nashville, SJ and Toronto. Value was leaning towards a late first with a lower prospect or a 2nd with mid prospect or two 2nds. Probably will need to take salary back which could increase value

Unless he's part of a deal to bring back a prospect who projects as a 1 or 2C....or a deal to bring back a current middle 6 C ....or of course part of a "pipedream" type deal to bring back someone like Eichel....Buch should be going nowhere. Lock him up at 5-5.5M for 5 or 6 yrs. Buch has managed to navigate the waters of his poor deployment and usage his first few years to find his niche....not a superstar (which is why he should top out in the 5-5.5M range)...but a productive player who can slot in at 1,2,or 3RW and drive play. Kakko is hopefully the future 1RW and Krav figures along the RW as well...but for now neither is pushing Buch for his spot so need to "jettison" him. NYR have developed him- so pay him what he's worth and get the fruits of that development.

I wouldn't trade a young, team-controlled top 6 winger without a 1st round pick coming back. The Calgary trade is rough for NY imo.

hawks pass. Value is fine but Buch doesn't push us over the top so we're better keeping the picks

Figured they are more of a on the flu y rebuild then tear it all down and start over. Unless Poille gets canned and new GM wants to start from scratch

It will be an on the fly but they still need to restock the pool because it’s very shallow
