Life after Maurice

Created by: TrueNorth
Team: 2021-22 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 2, 2021
Published: Mar. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Seattle takes Beaulieu even if Winnipeg has to add sweetener.

Samberg and Stanley battle for the 3rd pairing minutes. Perfetti and Heinola are thrown directly into a top 6/4 roles and can make rookie mistakes without fear of watching from the press box or being sent to the Moose. Vesalainen, Harkins, Samberg and Stanley are afforded similar leeway to learn on the fly.

Stas is brought back out of respect for both what he still has to offer and what he can teach the younger players. Savard is brought in to make Dubois more comfortable for his long term extension and to be the veteran, stay-at-home presence with Heinola.

I see this team having a 4-6 year window to be highly competitive before Scheifele, Morrissey, and Helly start to decline. Wheeler will drop off sooner but his $8.25M in cap space can buy a quality replacement. In 4 years time, Scheifele, Ehlers, Dubois, Connor, Copp, Lowry, Pionk, Morrissey, DeMelo and Hellebuyck will all be in their prime. Perfetti, Vesalainen, Appleton, Harkins, Heinola, Samberg, Stanley, Niku?, and Berdin should all be hitting their stride.

Ugh how much better would this be. This teams future is much brighter. If only they would actually fire Maurice so we could start injecting our youth effectively. I’m tired of watching the old vets, I understand the importance of veteran presence. But at what point do you stop sacrificing the future of the young guys to have a weak veteran 4th line.

Jets are one of few good teams with some cap flexibility in the next few year (if Little stays on LTIR). Should be solid contender for few more years if $$$ is spent wisely.
