RANGERS OVERRATED FUTURE

Created by: Devil
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 2, 2021
Published: Mar. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am a salty Devils fan

Question for Rangers fans: How are they going to fit under the cap? The cap will likely raise only by $1.5 M in the next few years due to Covid.

These moves are based on moves made my Rangers fans.
Zib: Resigned and assuming he somewhat bounces back
Kaako: Bridge deal and will be paid big $ once his deal is up (assuming he progresses)
Buch: $4 x 4 is fair for him
Laf: One year left on ELC and will get paid (assuming he gets better)
Hertl: Saw this move made by a Rangers fan
Kravtsov: Bridge Deal (2x2.5)
Miller: One year left on ELC
Fox: Gets paid big (6x6.5)
Robertson: One year left on ELC
Edvinsson: Drafted
Lundkvist: One year left on ELC

Assuming cap is 83M: With Laf, Miller, Robertson, and Lundkvist having one year left, Rangers are going to have no cap space to pay them. Lol

    Not resigning Blackwell? Or Rooney?
Trade Trouba and give those guys their monies.

Buchnevich gets more, but Kravtsov gets signed for only 1 year for less money, so it evens out. If Zibanejad wants more than a 5 year contract? Rangers let him walk away as a UFA. Maybe Strome is signed to a 3 or less year contract or he'll walk as a UFA.

Maybe the Rangers trade a current roster player for a center? Maybe Blackwell consistently plays like he's playing now for the rest of this season and next season and is resigned? Maybe a center prospect or a few center prospects prove they belong in the NHL over the next two seasons?

It's hard to predict what the Rangers cap situation will look like after this season and next. If the Rangers are in fact up against the cap in two years time they will be just fine. They have lots of tradable assets to get them under the cap and fill any holes (if any?) at center.

They have alot of NTC/NMC and I doubt most of them would waive to get out of NY.

I count only 4 full NTC/NMC - Panarin, Zibanejad, Kreider, and Trouba. And Kreider and Trouba become modified in a few years.

It happens to be listed on the teams page between the players position and number of years term. You could then see the details of the NMC/NYC by clicking the player and going to the players page. It's listed in current contract between transactions/trade history and contract history.
