Dallas wouldn't. Oleksiak is the Stars 2nd pair LD, has played strong defensively, and at 6'8" he does a phenomenal job at preventing other teams from taking runs at his partner, Heiskanen.

Not saying Dallas is looking for a 1st & a top prospect or anything crazy, but I honestly don't even believe the Stars entertain the notion of moving him. He's an affordable 2LD that doesn't require protection, because he's a UFA, and would be an affordable re-sign next year should he elect to return to Dallas.

He can keep his home in Dallas. Just rent something in Tampa for a few months, maybe win a cup, participate in some national big rig marketing, and then return back to Dallas in the Fall. Tampa has no money to sign someone like him next year anyway.

This seems realistic, as Dallas may be looking to sell at the deadline. Oleksiak would be a nice physical addition to the blue line, make us tougher to play against which is always a positive come playoff time.

Suppose you're still way out of a playoff spot at the deadline. Tampa can't resign him anyway, so there's a good chance you can get him back

I didn't really look too much at Tampa's future cap gymnastics. With them being unlikely to re-sign Oleksiak, I've shifted a bit and think that Oleksiak probably could be a good target for Tampa at the TDL.

If I'm Dallas I look for a little bit more than what's being offered here. With Tampa being the Cup favorite that 3rd is going to essentially be a 4th Round Pick. For a guy that's been in Dallas' top-4 for the better part of the last 2 years, and done well in that role, Dallas is going to look for more. Y'all don't really have the higher draft capital to spend (unless y'all want to give up a 1st), so let me know what y'all would think of something like this:

Tampa Bay Lightning
Jamie Oleksiak

Dallas Stars
2021 3rd Round Pick (w/ some kind of condition attached to re-signing or winning the Cup)
Gage Goncalves

Goncalves was just a 2nd round pick. I'd give you a 1st for 2nd swap + a 4th

How would that make sense? Then Tampa's moving up in the 2nd, getting an extra pick, and getting the player.

Misread your initial comment. Tampa would be moving up in the 2nd round, Dallas would have now have two 1sts, a later 2nd round pick, and they would be losing their 4th round pick in addition to Oleksiak. Tampa moves up 20ish picks (assume #60 overall to #40 overall) in the 2nd, gains a 4th, and gains Oleksiak for their 1st

Tampa doesn't have a 2nd this year or next, so that wouldn't work very well

I think we're never drafting in the first round again. I'm ok parting with the first as long as the condition is if we win the Cup. I'm not sure what the unconditional package would be, but I wouldn't trade any prospects like Goncalves for a postseason rental.

Also, that Dallas second could end up being rather early. Might turn into a 3rd so there's enough incentive for Dallas.
