Toronto cant take his cap hit in net. They are probably going to be cutting costs in net this upcoming offseason or at the very least not going above Freddy's current 5 mil aav.

Colorado with Gibson would be a wagon, plus I think they make the most sense. They have the pieces to get Anaheim to make the move and can easily stay contenders for the foreseeable future.

Vegas and Florida dont make sense. I wish Florida could trade bob for Gibson but they’d have to retain half and trade a bunch of prospects and picks.

Avs - Maybe but Grubeaur has been playing good so far
Canes - Yes
Oilers - Yes but they wouldn't be willing to give the assets to give Anaheim.

Toronto makes a lot of sense actually. They're losing Andersen this off-season and could use a bonafide starter like Gibson.

Simple: a package with Nylander as the main part makes a ton of sense for both sides and makes the cap work for Toronto. A $1.4M increase for a big increase of Andersen isn't a bad price to pay. The issue with Andersen is that he hasn't lived up to his salary for about a season to justify a raise. If they got get someone better for only a little more than Andersen, I'd bet they'd highly consider it.

Gibson to oilers can make a lot of sense but I really think the asking price tend to see on this site is a lot higher than any team would be willing to pay.

A package including Nylander makes no sense when the Leafs are already looking for another top 6 forward. Trading one of the big 4 would just change that from want to a very big need. It also makes no sense for the Ducks. By the time they are competing, Nylander would be a UFA.

actually, it does for both sides.

Leafs move Nylander and get an upgrade in net which is something that has slowly dragged them down in playoffs. Nylander would have to be moved in that package. Replacing him would be Robertson, which not only replaces the scoring but save them cap hit on a forward. You can then sign another forward similar to Hyman to be the puck getter on the second line. Not every forward has to be an offensive juggernaut, they have enough of that in Matthews, Marner, and Tavares (and Robertson could very well fit in with that group). For Anaheim, they're gonna need a highly skilled player to play with Zegras. Nylander fits that and has shown he's capable of it by playing with the likes of Matthews and Tavares. Nylander can be signed to an extension before he hits UFA, and a guy like him would likely love the California lifestyle and could certainly re-up there to play on a contender with year round beautiful weather.

I get you may not like the idea of the deal, and I'm not saying it's likely to happen: but you can't deny it's a fit for both teams.

Robertson isnt a replacement for Nylander. There are more than a few steps between them right now. You'd be taking a driving force of the top 6 and replacing it with a rookie who hasn't shown hes able to have an impact yet. This for a team who isn't confident in their offense and is looking for a top 6 forward to compliment it already. Your idea still makes no sense and isn't a fit for the Leafs at all.

I can't see Vegas or Toronto trading for Gibson anytime soon. Colorado would be a good fit but Grubauer has been playing out of his mind lately so its" a maybe. Same with Florida as he would help them a lot but I don't seem them having the assets to trade for him as they would prob have to give up knight++. Carolina and Edmonton are in my opinion the most realistic options here. Both have the assets to trade and need goaltending.

How come the team who’s first in the league isn’t a contender ?

Giving a guy like Holloway plus more is crazy! Nobody would give a deal like that for any goalie.

There's never any logical debate with Leafs fans.

... offence doesn't win you championships. Defence wins. Goaltender is the most important position on the ice. Unless you're comfortable going into next season with Campbell and Hutchinson as the tandem. There's not many good options on the free agent list to fill that spot. Nylander is expendable. Offence can be created by a team effort, where as Nylander clearly doesn't commit to defence.

Florida trading for Gibson would be awesome to see...when you can, you have to lock up 20% of your cap into Goalies. This should be a rule.

Joking aside, trading Gibson to a team like the Oilers would be a travesty...he struggles in Anaheim because their team defensive is not great. Why would it be different in EDM?

The notion that offense doesn't win championships and defense does is actually demonstrably untrue. Should look up the studies on it. The fact is a balance of offense and defense is the most likely path to victory given past winners. You need to be good at both.

Also I'm not sure someone on the 'Trade Nylander' train should be complaining about logical debate.

Smith's been good recently but given his age, it's probably just fluke.
