I can easily see the Goligoski move. Really reinforces and solidifies the defense for a deep playoff run at minimal cost.

This was you not so long ago, glad to see you've come around
me: "why not just grab Haula @ 50% for a 3rd/4th?"

you:
"That said I'm not sure Haula is the solution either. He hasn't been great since leaving Vegas, and strikes me as being a somewhat similar move to to the Brassard and Namestnikov rentals as a cheap guy you hope can spark the 3rd line but who ultimately isn't enough to actually be a proper solution. Avs should be aiming higher than that. "

"Haula hasn't played very well since leaving Vegas. He'd be a slightly underwhelming solution at 3C based on his current play. 0 goals and 4 assists in 14 games. With that production we might as well stick with Jost at 3C as he provides elite defense. "

Avs aren't finding a permanent solution this year.

At some point in time the defense has to be healthy right? Till it gets more dismal I’m holding out hope of
Toews Makar
Graves Girard
Byram Johnson
But also got to admit Timmins has been a tad underwhelming while McDonald has been ok.

At this point I’m willing to try anybody at 3C.

If you've been following me for any length of time here you'll know that just because I make an AGM trade doesn't necessarily mean that it's a trade I'd actually want the Avs to make. I very often make proposals just to play with ideas and generate discussion. Such as the one above featuring Goligoski.

Haula wouldn't be a terrible option but there are better options than him.

I appreciate you following up on my earlier comments though, thanks! smile

I follow the Avs trade threads and I get that you are tossing out ideas since you've traded for just about every 2-3C out there.
But you did slot him in at 3C over Jost and Compher so I'm going to pretend you are coming around after revisiting more of Haula's games.

Well of course Haula would slot in ahead of Jost or Conpher here. If the Avs trade for him its to slot him at 3C not to be a 4th liner for them. No point being unrealistic.

McDonald is much more experienced than Timmins and he has been decent. Don't forget that Timmins isn't your average 22 y/o; he's more like a 20 y/o considering how much time he lost. Not giving him a pass per se but understanding that he missed a lot of time and still has a lot of time yet to develop.

3C is a sore spot - wish Joe could find a way to make someone like Staal work.

I like Timmins I just think his days in COL are numbered. He is a good (not great) trade chip unless because Baron and Helleson will be on ELC’s when Byram gets his next deal and the defense gets pricey. At least that’s my take.
