If NJ goes firesale

Description
If the Devils continue to play poorly and decide to bottom out...just some ideas. Bit out there don't take them too seriously.

NYI- I know Zajac declined trade to NY last season but with his career heading torward an end this would be his best chance to chase a Cup. Wouldn't have to move and would be reunited with his buddies Greene and Schneider. Devils have cap to spare so eating that Ladd contract gets you a 1st and a second. We all know Lou loves his boys, probably willing to pay the price for Zajac with a future pick. Gimme those 2022 pickssss.
BOS- Likely the two best players on expiring contracts we have to offer. Palmieri is a legit top 6 RW and Murray a legit top 4 LD (despite being in the dog house rn for whatever reason). If Boston is in win now mode then its worth a future pick for a chance at a Cup. Vaakanainen seems to not be developing terrifically but Devils could give him a chance to play now which Bruins can't. Value is off with him in the deal so Okhotyuk is in there to even it. Tough, physical LD with limited offensive potential. But giving Boston a left handed defensive prospect to fill the hole left by Vaakanainen. Moore in there for salary purposes and dumping that contract makes the trade more fair from Bruins perspective. He has familiarity with NJ and can probably play bottom pair or may eventually be a buyout candidate. Gimme those 2022 pickssss.
TOR- Maybe the winger Toronto needs. If better linemates helps Gusev get back to last years form he's an elite middle 6 winger on an already deadly Toronto team. Strictly rental so Toronto would have to find about a million of cap space but the contract is off the books after the season. Galchenyuk in there strictly for cap reasons. Joey Anderson isn't working out so why not take him back at basically no risk and give him some minutes to finish the year. 3rd rounder is in there to even out Devils' retaining half the salary but might be a bit high I'd take a 4th tbh.
MTL trade- Not that exciting but a trade I've seen on CapFriendly a few times that might be mutually beneficial. Almost identical contracts but Butcher plays a better up-tempo game and can QB a powerplay which Montreal needs while Chiarot is a steady defensemen which the Devils could use to help stabilize pairs with younger dmen. Butcher much younger and higher potential so 3rd rounder accounts for that.
FLA- Florida is good but that D core isn't good enough to make a deep playoff run. Vatanen is a legitimate NHL defenseman. That's about it. Honestly 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th rounder...don't really care. Think Vatanens time in NJ is coming to an end I'll take what we can get for him, just identified FLA as a team that could make sense.

I kind of understand the Boston trade (if they are going with win-now mentalty), but I think they are pretty high on Vaakanainen. Would make this a hefty prize despite NJ retaining for cap purposes.
Pretty sure Montreal declines, as Chiarot would be better for the playoffs.
And not sure if Florida really needs Vatanen, atleast the way he been playing.

Can't argue with any of that really. For Boston trade maybe NJ adds a mid round pick or an average prospect to get that value lined up. MTL trade may be better suited for next offseason than this TDL because I agree Chiarot is probably a better playoff defenseman right now. Vatanen, who knows. I'm guessing NJ gets something for him but value has to be pretty low. If he keeps playing like this probably talking like a 5th. If he gets back to himself then 3rd is probably not unrealistic.

MTL would probably decline that particular deal. I think Chiarot could be available, and I think you’re in the right ballpark when it comes to the value each player brings.

I just think that MTL is very deep on young LH shooting d-men (Romanov, Guhle, Struble, Harris, Fairbrother, Norlinder) and don’t need that kind of asset. The only way I can see Bergy going after Butcher is if he decides he wants to win “NOW”, and feels that this kinda swap puts him over the top.

Leafs would need you retain the full 50%, and even then it would be very tough to make the cap work for that.
